I've been poking around on the Apple discussions and it seems that if your MBP is under warranty, you can get the main logic board replaced for free, which would fix the whine and the heat issues... I'm thinking about doing this. Did any of you do this/hear about this?

I'm just Just web browsing, downloading, and talking on Adium with the computer on a flat surface in a 68F room and my MBP spiked at 80C. The fans are at 4400 RPM now and its down to 77C. When I had my fans maxed at 6000 RPM, it was still 70C. Got even hotter when doing CPU intensive stuff...

if its free i see no reason why not to, applecare owns, they send you a box with all packing materials postage paid and everything, you call and have someone come pick it up and its back in ~2 days. some of the best service ive ever experienced

I've heard of it taking as long as 4 weeks.... I think you have to convince apple that there is a problem.

i see what you did there. yea it's natural to assume that if you can't find help for your problem directly on the manufacturer's forum then OT will solve it. it's expected actually :hsugh:

I got my mainboard replaced twice, then two other things broke, so they eventually just gave me a new Core2Duo one :)

They were very quick about the mainboard replacements though, under 2 weeks both times.
