i was offered the ruger mini-14 ranch (with scope mounts) today for 490...+tax/lic.

    does that sound good?

us Californians (norcal to be exact) cant get close to an ar-15, but this is the closest.....

    as well as the m1a

been checking on perfect union, seems all i need is a scope (that's what i wanna do with it) and a muzzle break.

They aren't bad rifles, I've shot one a couple times but not really enough to say much about it. I've heard they lack a bit in the accuracy department, but like I said that's just something I heard. If the rifle is new that sounds like a good deal for it, I believe retail is around 650 bucks.

There are Kalifornia legal AR's that have a fixed 10 round magazine if you really want one. I think DSA came out with a Kali-legal FAL too.

Get a Saiga in either 7.62x39 or .308 ... looks practically the same and is less than alf the price and is built on the famous ak-47 action..

hell there are multiple companies that use them as their platform for ak-47 conversions

Mini-14 is a great rifle. I love mine. Plenty of accessories, and it shoots straight as an arrow.

Oh, and here in NM, I've seen them at Wal Mart for around $450, and that's for the blued Ranch model.

Since the Saiga is built on an AK reciever, sale in California is prohibited.

    ...out to 100yrds

Past 100yrd the accuracy really drops.

I think the only real problem with that gun is the barrel, there are many option around that too.

I've seen these Harmonic Barrel Stabilizer that promise to cut your groups in 1/2.

This place also makes a full 1" bull barrel.

Check out this link read more about it:

Sounds like Californias gun laws are modelled after Canadas......alot of the same rifles, etc are prohibited....

EDIT: we can have ARs, but not AKs :fawk:
