My brother is searching for an AR to punch paper with at 100 yards, maybe more.

He doesn't have a huge budget for it at the moment so we've been scoping arfcom, THR, etc...

    I came across this:

For $575... seems like a pretty good price to me. :dunno:

Pieces of shit, poorly built and not very accurate at distance. Tell him to save money and get something better.

    Olympic Arms = FTL

He could do better for just a little more if he builds it himself.

People give them a lot worse rap than they really deserve, 99% of the people who trash them on Arfcom and such have most likely never even touched one. I had one during the ban and never had an issue with it. The only one I would totally avoid is the older "Plinker" model, they used a cast lower receiver that was prone to cracking (the newer version is forged).

Oly definitely isn't top of the line, but for someone that will never do more than punch paper it would serve them fine. If you go up in price range just a little you can probably find something better slightly used or just build one up with decent parts.

Everyone that doesn't own one hates them. I've never shot one so I can't say for sure, but I have a friend with one and he's only had a couple of FTFeed issues.

Of course if you own something you usually don't say it's a POS.

I had a 9mm Oly upper, never had any issues or complaints about it.

I've handled a few and they just don't feel as well built and solid. Couple that with issues I've read about in the past and I wouldn't buy one or recommend one. I'm not going to spend the money on one so someone on the internet will take me more seriously. There are too many other good options out there for around the same price range (or a little more) that have good reputations, so why risk it?

My Oly lower functions fine, mated to a cheapo M&A upper no less.
The lower receivers are cast (or at least they used to be, I bought mine about 10 years ago) and if you bang them hard on rocks and such they could possibly break.

I busted the tab on a my Oly lower driving in the trigger guard pin. I super glued the tab back on and it's held for several years since. I don't have a whole lot of rounds through it though. Maybe a thousand or so.

    I'd buy it for $575.
