"Another Gun Owner for Obama" makes as much sense as "Another Jew for Hitler".

Okay, I might get some stones thrown at me for this but let me say that this sort of thinking is part of what gives us a bad name. We're painted as single-issue voters...if we can't have our guns, you don't get our vote. It's tunnel-vision. While I agree that our right to bear arms is important, it's only one issue. There are other things to think about such as the economy.

Now, I voted for McCain. I'm not proud of it but I damn sure wasn't going to vote for a socialist. I didn't vote for him solely because I thought he and Palin would better protect our second amendment right but because I agree with their position on more issues than Obama.

Flame me if you will but if a gun owner wants to be taken seriously and not be considered a right-wing nut job survivalist, we need to show that we actually care about more than just the Second.

IMO theres nothing wrong with single issue voting - especially centered around the 2nd amendment.

typically, candidates who are strong supporters of the 2nd appeal to gun owners because we can agree with most of the rest of their platform.

also, if someone is so quick to give up our 2nd amendment right, how quick would they be to say, rewrite the 4th? or eliminate the 1st? my point is, once you start limiting rights where you stop, and who draws the line?

The 2nd is the only one that's the target of a long-term organized effort to destroy it. You shit on the bill of rights, you don't get my vote.

And if I have to choose between two articles of the bill of rights, I always choose the 2nd, because it protects my ability to protect the rest of my rights.

There's a reason it was listed SECOND.

And if it makes you feel any better, Obama supports the "fairness doctrine", so he wants to shit on the 1st Amendment as well.

while we're at it, why dont we rewrite the 4th to make it ok for police to pull us over to search our cars? that sounds pretty fair, right? :coolugh:

And mccain shits all over the 1st and 4th amendments. I don't want to vote for a guy who votes to ban free speech in the form of flag burning.

Make do with what you have but I don't like the idea that just because someone is less of an anti than the other guy that it means he is all about the bill of rights.

Then that's like saying you'll vote for a staunch supporter of the 2nd amendment even though they want to supplant marriage with polyandry and raise taxes to 75% (extreme examples, I know). I understand the importance of this amendment because it does in fact provide us with the ability to protect our other inalienable rights however, like most things in life, there are many different perspectives to take into consideration when making a decision. If you want to list the second amendment as the most important, that's your prerogative but allowing it to be the ONLY factor can be construed as ignorant.

Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me. Obama also voted to reauth the patriot act. So he's also against the 4th Amendment.

When we lose our right to keep and bear arms, you can forget about the rest.

And the kicker, Obama thinks the constitution is flawed because it doesn't redistribute wealth and sets inappropriate limits on the government, and he thinks it's the supreme court's responsibility to "overcome the limits set [on the government] in the Constitution by the founding fathers".

From our discussions, you and I have never been on opposite sides of the table and we aren't now. I agree with you wholeheartedly but part of the problem with the perception of gun owners is the general public believes that all we care about is our right to bear arms.

Let's be honest...McCain isn't exactly the strongest supporter of our right to bear arms. If that was all that mattered to you, you should have written in Ron Paul (yeah, yeah, write-ins never win so we vote for the lesser of two evils)

I would be voting for RP now if he'd won the nomination. Thompson was the guy I really wanted.

But now, given a choice between a guy who MOSTLY supports my rights and a guy who wants to destroy them, I'll go with mostly.

The general public is generally pretty fucking stupid. The results of this election will prove that.

So you'd sacrifice the rest of the bill of rights to protect guns....because they protect what you're giving up?

I get the idea in spirit but in practice I'm just not as sure. If guns can't even protect themselves and you give up your other freedoms to protect guns....it doesn't seem like the guns are worth anything.

any student in college who has any figment of a goal of success is a fucking retard for voting obama; and the sad thing is, there are a shitload of good students at my school who did.

if you want to go to graduate school or med school and lead a successful career/life, and vote obama you know dick about how he wants to "spread the wealth".

why spend tens of thousands of dollars (maybe 100,000+) to become successful just so you can support those high school drop out douchbags too lazy to get a job and support themselves?

:hsughno: so much for higher education.
