    Did anything break?
What did you like about the car?
    What did you not like?
    Did you modify it?

They're somewhat reliable. Stay away from the 2000 and early 2001 models. Period. Aside from that, they're a bitch to work on, the whole front end practically has to come off to do the timing belt (allroad is worse). If it doesnt have an up-to-date, complete service history, walk away.

He's around 400 at the wheels without tuning and fuel.

I don't think he has had anything go wrong. But then again he has pretty much replaced every piece in that car with the exception of the engine block before 55k miles. :hs:

If you chip it (or buy one that's been chipped) the turbos can fail prematurely (which can be a good excuse to upgrade too), and you'll be pullin the engine to get at them which can get pricey. When you shoehorn an engine that size in a B5 S4 engine compartment, it doesn't leave much breathing room for those turbos (especially under chipped boost pressure). That said I know people that have chipped them and had no problems either. They're still fun as shit, just try to get an 01.5 with the good oil lines.

i replaced the top end of the motor (with RS4 parts) at 55k miles. I was chipped since ~6k miles, and the only problems I had was a bad 2nd gear synchro (early 01s had a bad batch) and my throttlebody shorted itself for some reason at ~30,000 miles, but that was replaced in 20 minutes by a dealer

I put 36k miles on a used 2000 S4. I did an X-Chip, UUC VM3 cat-back, H&R Street coilovers, AWE DTS, Nuespeed shifter, and a modified airbox. Never had any engine problems besides a bad O2 sensor and a bad MAF sensor, both replaced under Audi Assured warranty. I had a problem with the heated seat, the CD player, the drivers window, and a blown rear speaker that was all taken care of under warranty. It had its little issues, but I loved that car. I still miss it. I don't miss the Audi dealer tho. Valley Motors sucks.

    Quick question...

I've heard that on an 2001 S4, you could get close to 500hp by just making some tweak with the chip. Is that possible or just a rumor?

Rumor....It is possible with a chip to get low 300's hp, and high 300's torque. You need aftermarket turbos to get 500 hp on an S4.

Well, no one can tell you for sure. Call up your agent and ask. But somewhere between an Audi A4 and BMW M3. But if you live in NJ, don't bother it will just be stolen anyway.

I wanted an S4 like no other 3 years ago. what prevented me from getting one was my Audi master mechanic friend. For what I wanted the car for he did not recommend buying it.

Chipping it was known to cause turbo issues on a few cars.... and a turbo swap is a 17 hour book job. On top of the he refused to even think about working on it for me.

If you have the money for upkeep and modding.... great little cars.

His two strongest recommendations were: 1. Never buy an S4 that is not audi assured. 2. Dont buy a Tip S4
