Chris, you got your ears on? I've got some hot seat covers here wanting some action. Let's stop at this choke-and-puke over there.

Isn't it illegal to use amps? Not that I particularly care, but is there a way you could get caught using one?

    :dunno:

Such as? What happens if you do get caught? Big fine or something? If you're just riding in the forest and not using it on the street I don't see how you'd get caught.

4 watts is the MAXIMUM power allowed in 11 meter band

if caught, its a $15000 fine ( this may have changed ) and they take all your equipment

Hmm. 350 watts is probably a super strong broadcast signal come to think of it. Mine is only 4 and it can broadcast several miles. But I wouldn't really need anything like that personally. I just need to communicate with the club when we're on trail rides.. if it goes 3 miles I'm happy. Thus.. my cheap setup = win :o

like i said, it may have changed, i havent seen the 11 meter rulebook in years.

i used to have a 1000w amp at my house years ago. i only used it early in the morning on the illegal "lower channels" talking over to Europe.

sure, its called ham radio, and when the world is plunged into nuclear winter, it will be our only means of communication, so if you ever notice your nieghboor has a "radio op" license plate on their car, make friends :bigthumb:

Oh, and I knew a guy that had a 1000 wat amp in the truck, made the headlights go dim whenever he cued the mic, he wasnt the sharpest tool in the shed though
