    Hi guys

I recently got my D40 and now I'm currently getting used to it and learning a bit more about photography in general. I recently came across a page of a photographer and I really love his shots.

    http://www.eastonchang.com/

Could somebody please perhaps put me into the right direction for some tutorials or other stuff on doing shots like that?

I think they are great shots with a shit load of photoshop action going on. I especially like the Supra an NSX shots of him.

You probably won't be able to do any indoor type car shots like his since he uses very expensive studio lighting. As far as moving shots its not too difficult. Get in a second car, go the same speed as car you are photographing, and use slower shutter speed. win!

edit: ricer angles are a MUST.

LOL @ misinformation in this thread. I actually eknow Easton and shoot for one of his other sites.

He doesn't just use "really expensive studio lights" he uses a number of different products ranging from multiple flashes to pack and head setups. Some of his shots are with rigs, some are car to car, some are static. He uses his own rigs, not an automotiverigs.com rig.

A monopod doesn't help on panning, in fact it's harder to get a good pan with a monopod than it is without. You don't need a ton of equipment to get some really great auto beauty shots. Most of the time I shoot with a 20D and I use a 17-40 f/4L. I use rig gear from filmtools.com and either 580ex's or a rented Speedotron pack/heads.

Most of the other guys I've worked with/talked to use similar gear (more or less). Some, like Wynn Ruji, use a lot more gear, and others like Matt Watkinson use less. Some use a LOT of photoshop, like Wynn, Easton or Steve Demmitt, while others like Matt, Jimmy Sykes or John Thawley use little to no Photoshop.

Basically, figure out what you want to shoot, and the look/mood you are going for, then experiment to find the gear that works for you. I laugh my ass off at people that say you need x or y to get whatever shot. You need to find what works for you and then go with that. Buying a $600+ rig won't make you shoot like Easton, and knowing what photoshop routines Wynn uses won't make your shots look like his either.

For a basic and well written tutorial read this: http://www.mattwatkinson.com/tutorial/

Also go to either dieselstation.com (another site of Easton's) or to automotivephoto.net (John Thawley's site) an hang out in the forums for more info.

Good luck. (and don't ask me to post my work here, I won't do it)
