I'm thinking about getting a TV and an AppleTV, has there been any buzz about new hardware? Don't want to buy one 1 week before they release a new one.

i would need hd at a minimum to consider one. It'd be nice if it had dvr, as well.

  6. It's not about the quality that we can actually perceive, it's about being able to complain about something. If the Apple TV had 1080p and someone came out with a device that could do 1081p, people would complain that they need it.

This guy always has something to complain about apple. Always spreading misinformation. Apple TV DOES have HD, albeit it's 720p, but it's still HD. :jerkit:

i really enjoy my apple tv. it was the lowest entry point and continued cost for HD movies. and i love that i can watch my podcasts, home movies, and downloaded content on it.

My best friend and a friend at work both have Apple TV's as well and love them. My best friend isn't even a Mac guy (yet), but he'd probably kick your @$$ if you tried to take away his iPhone or his Apple TV. :wiggle:

they did have atvflash.com , the product was pretty cool because it was a flash drive that you put in the usb port that allowed you to play a bunch more formats like xvids, it also included a safari browser. when you removed the flash drive, your apple tv worked like stock.
however, the company has stopped selling it and i can't find a release on any torrent sites

you could also look into ATV4Windows, i've seen a couple of them on piratebay, but not the newest one. you might have to join a message board for a couple of bucks to obtain that. it's a linux based install that patches the apple tv os (i think), allows for more codecs, ssh access, etc

Do you have any first hand experience with popcorn hour? I've been seriously looking into some sort of media player, apple TV type thing.

Just bought a Popcorn Hour for my dad for Father's Day. They have a weird first-come-first serve, batch process order scheme. You have to jump thru some hoops, but i'm hoping it'll be worth it. Judging on their past shipments, i should only have to wait about a week before they next batch is shipped.

I put in an order for one of those Roku boxes to play streaming Netflix shows. Gonna hold out for a new appletv or a more mature popcorn hour for the rest of my stuff.
