    Anyone else race?

Not midnight street races on local city streets, I mean being a member to an official organization like the SCCA or other 'legal' sanctioned organization.

I race my 00 Mercury Cougar on the local SCCA Solo-II http://www.geocites.com/sccaregion12/ Gulf Coast Region 12.

Lucky for us, we get to use an old Navy airfield for our races, which means nice expanses of smooth, open tarmac where speeds can get up good.

Would love to one day take a Subaru Impreza WRX or WRC out at the Cherokee Trails rally in Tennessee, just need a co-driver that can stand to read pace notes while watching trees fly by at 80 mph.

Also wouldn't mind trying my hand at the V8 BMW M3 GTR cars in the ALMS.

    Who wouldn't?

Have run a couple of autocrosses. Don't like the wide open ones, prefer the tight courses myself.

My dad used to co-drive for a few years when I was a kid, then in jr. high he talked my mom into driving. So I've grown up going to events, but have yet to drive one. Would like to though. Or at least a rallycross or hillclimb.

However, I now know what my car would look like upside down in a creek. This is a pic taken my my friend at the Oregon Trail Rally in Tillamook last year. We ended up loaning a hat and blanket to the driver since he was very wet and very cold by the time we got there. There is a little bit of the bridge they never made it across on the far right of the picture.

Yeah, noone said rallying was a safe sport.

Just watch the WRC on Speedvision long enough and you'll see.

Course where else can you hit a cow at 80 mph and not worry :big grin:

ALMS = American Le Mans Series, the racing series based entirely off of the rule book for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

BMW entered its V8 M3-GTR into the series, and the last race of the season was the Petite Le Mans at Road Atlanta, as shown in the picture. ;)

I think the blue and white M3's are I6's, and the red BMW car is the V8.

I don't think you would be going 80 in the dirt for a while.Rally driving is scary.

The blue and white Schnitzer Team BMW M3s were the first V8 M3s in the series. Thats all they ever ran in.

The Red, White, and Blue Team PPG BMW M3s started out with the older I-6 before moving up to the V8 spec.

I have been road racing for a few years these cars, pictures on bottom of the civic with funky lights are from the 24 hours at Moroso, hence the lights :)

    And also road rally.

The near future Club Rally plans keep changing, and sometimes it seems more realistic than others, so no actual performance rally for me......yet. :big grin:

I auto-x my MkVIII (and drag race it)...and yes, I do get lots of weird looks/comments. "can you even fit through the gates?" "your car might be longer than those slalom cones". 18' in lenght and an air suspension don't make the best autocrosser. Unfortunatly, I don't have any pictures of me on the track. My father used to road race his BMW, but he gave that up after seeing too many people total their street cars. We race go-karts now.

And I have a friend who's really into rallying, he says it's just too expensive to compete in, in addition to having a racecar you can afford to wreck, you need a co-driver, some support staff, a persuit vehicle, a ton of spare parts and tools, space to store all this stuff when you aren't rallying etc...

This is what it looked like when I found it in a field. It was originally built in the late 60's & I restored it
