I'm looking for a camera, preferabley in HD. One that would be the most compatible with my Mac Pro, I have Final Cut and everything already. I'm going back to school for filming and would like to have a personal camera.

Any recomendations? This might be the wrong forum but I didn't see any "Amature Filmaking" forum, and no one was talking about film in the art forum. So redirect me if this shouldn't be here.

The better question is, are any of the camera's going to comflict with a Mac?

I do far more editing an animation than I do shooting but I'm more than competent shooting/directing too. My favorite for the money is the Canon XL-H1 because it lets you get an uncompressed out via HD SDI....outfit the mac pro with a proper video card and you have a badass cinema grade setup. Add the fact that the mac pro can handle prores at 1080i and you no longer have to deal with uncompressed data rates. That's quality you can't touch anywhere near the money with any other setup. But it's still a TON of cash if you're comparing to a basic HDV camera....or even a nice 3-chip without SDI or interchangeable lens capabilities.

The P2 system rocks hard too but the media is just too damn much money for my taste. Regardless, either of these, or any other HDV/DV cam will work with the Mac Pro/FCP via firewire if that's your game.

But all this means pretty much nothing without a budget, or what you intend to shoot with it :big grin: Details?

Money is not too much of a problem, I'm mosty going to use student loans but I don't want to go crazy and buy the best money has to offer. But at the same time I don't want to cheat myself out of quality and lasting(tivity?) Which is why I don't want to settle for a non HD camera. I do need to give my Pro a few more upgrades, (video card, more memory, maybe an input board or whatever those are called) but a the camera would be more usefull right now being I can use the schools equipment to edit.

Is there any thing else you'd recomend? I'm liking the Canon you showed me, the P2 system is a tad too much like you said. At least in comparison, when I could get the Canon.

You wouldn't happen to know any filming forums that I could browse?

Wow nice, and a lot cheaper then the Canon. But I think I'm leaning towards the Canon just because I have friends that use Canons and I could mooch off their lenses and shit. Hmm.
