so i totalled my Z. [yes you can all make fun of me] and i'm thinking about getting an s2000 just because i want a convertible so bad and the s2000's are pretty comparable to the Z. i'm just afraid of the lack of torque and speed. or anuthing else i might not know about the car. is there any certain years to stay away from, or anything i should know before i start to seriously look into getting one?

lack of speed? you do realize that the z isn't faster than the s, right? go for a 2002 or up so you get the glass rear window

its also ugly as sin with the top up... and he's concerned about the s2000 being sooo much slower than the z... :ugh: I swear, someone says the s doesn't have any torque(sure it could use more), and everyone thinks its a 16 second car

most verts are nasty with the top up. what's the avg 1/4 for the s2k?

i know what they really can run...i'd rather have a vert z

yes, because driving the car in the power band is work...

I really have to wonder how many people that bitch about the s2000 have actually driven it... its not like you have to go out of your way to make it go fast... you just shift higher in the rev range... which you do in any car if you're trying to go fast

avg 1/4 mile is mid 14's... high 13's have been seen with good drivers... if I remember right, there were magazine tests showing the s2000 being faster than the z

that's definatly one thing i don't understand about "car people." they say they don't wanna have to rev the shit out of an engine to get power...why the fuck not?

    blah.

this is true... but chances are, if someone's concerned about the performance abilities of the car as a selling point, they'd be capable of shifting a little higher...

I've always wondered what people would say about the s2000 if the tach said the red line was at 4.5 x 2000 rpm instead of the typical 9 x 1000 rpm, if you know what I mean

let me clarify... I meant around the track... 1/4 mile wise they're pretty even

its simply a different approach of making power, and people like to have somethign to bitch about, regardless of the significance of it... frankly, the s2000 is a blast to drive, and having to rev has never really been a problem..

like I said... driving the car, cruising at 3k, I've never had that problem... sure, it doesn't throw you back into your seat as you go flying off into the horizon, but its far from the complete lack of acceleration most people think... and if you're really trying to go fast, in either situation, you're gonna downshift

the reason i'm looking into the s2000 is because i probably won't be able to afford another Z.

i hit a fence. i was turning and i hit a little bump, sent the back wheels spining and i lost control. just bad luck. i've taken this turn a million times. :(

but don't you think that someone in the market for a "roadster" would realize that the powerband is higher, therefore requiring the rpms to be higher?

you make it sound like downshifting is such a difficult thing.

for the average around town and highway passing, a downshift is not necessary in an s2k

As much as I like the S2000 over the Z, I must let you know that supposedly next model year, the S2000 is going to 2.2 liters with a 8k redline. HP is supposed to be the same, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

Dont forget about the glass clutch with 7000 rpm launches just to keep up with the Z. I am sorry but I have a couple of friends that have S2000's and I walk away from them everytime. I just cant be too impressed with a 30,000 4 cylinder with 240hp. With the Z your powerband is always right there, but with the S2000 you have to say "Hey wait till my Vtec kicks in then we can go"...

    yeah...I knew most of that.....

well, @ least this "1st gen" S2000 buyers will have the exclusivity of redlining @ 9000rpm.
