So Big5 is running a shotgun sale again this week and I'm probaby going to buy one after work tomorrow. In the picture, the one that comes with the 2 barrels is a 500 (i think.) Question is: how many shells does it hold?

I'm kinda leaning toward the "Security" version (which I think is a 590, but not sure) because when I was rereading the old Rem 870 vs. Moss 500/590 threads, most people said to get the 590 over the 500 because of capacity and build quality.

This will probably be my only shotty until I can get a saiga and convert it, and I want to use it for HD as well as clays. I really like the long barrel option on the 500 because I don't know how well I can shoot clays with the 20 inch "Security" model.

Any opinions on which to get? :dunno:

Do you know what model it is? Trying to read up on them. But I was asking how many shells the other, 2 barrel model holds.

I'm more interested in the Marlin Ranger and the spotting scope.

I was going to check out that scope too. I've been eyeing a cheap barska from sportsmanguide, but this one looks like a decent deal.

Judging by the price I think its a 500 varient, the 500 with 2 barrels is probably 6/8 round capacity, I wouldn't be to concerned about its capacity even if its less extension tubes for the 500 are pretty cheap and easy to do.

I own the Combo. It's a 6-shot model. The 8-shot one is the 500 "Special Purpose" model. The 590 is a different shotgun.

Edit- If you want capacity, then get the 8-shot model. The only way to increase capacity with the 6-shot model is to buy the mag tube and barrel from the 8-shot model and install it.

Get the two barrel combo for versatility if that's what you need. The combo barrel's 18.5 barrel also makes it seem a bit "handier" than the 20" Security barrel.

And yeah, you need to completely change the magazine tube on an M500 to get a higher capacity, you can't just buy an extension.

No matter what, you can't really go wrong with either.

I think I will get the combo. The capacity isn't a huge deal to me, I thought the security model was a 590 and that was the selling point. I'll be doing clays this weekend if it all plays out right. :x:

The Security model is just an 8-shot, 20" version of the 500. The 590 is a 9-shot model, with bayo lug and is more beefed up than the regular 500.

Thanks. I never really bothered to educate myself on shotguns until now. I was going to get an 870 but $209 for that 500 just seems like a really good deal.

You wanna get me a Mosin and send it to me? :hs:

Oh and I have the combo also. Capacity is 5+1, just like everyone else has said. Great shotgun, no problems with it thus far. I'm going to go shoot some trap when I get back home in a few days. :big grin:

Get the Mossberg with two barrels. It seems like a better deal. If you want a shotgun with extra capacity get a 590 or an 870 and tube extensions.. $8.99 for 30-30 ammo is cheap as hell, too. Usually I don't even look at ammo prices at Big 5. I guess I should start.

Sorry to go offtopic here a bit, but I'm trying to see what kind of deals Dunham's (sporting good store in the north) has on the firearms they have.... I can't find them on their website, though. Do they not list that on their website... anyone know? :dunno:

Does it say what model that Marlin is? If it's the 336A, you can get it at walmart cheaper (for those that still have walmarts that sell guns :mamoru:)
