RAM over storage, unless you absolutely need the storage.

its a totally new system that will be built as shown on the newegg list

and it will start with XP Pro then move to Vista (probably home premium, because thats what I can get for cheap from the school bookstore)

Skip Vista until they come out with expansion packs that include the features it was supposed to have in the first place.

Here's a question; instead of buying more of the same, what DON'T you have yet?

What's wrong with GDDR2? Are there any games that can even use GDDR3? From what I've seen, video cards are starting to outstrip the games they're designed to run, not the other way around.

nothing wrong with GDDR2, just that GDDR3 is better.
GDDR3 runs higher frequency clocks, generate less heat, and consumes less power

I'll believe "faster and cooler and lower-powered" when I see it. I used to be able to run machines on 150W power supplies with no cooling fans inside the case, and now I'm up to 500W with three cooling fans.

I would put the extra money into upgrading to a Raptor hd with a bigger backup drive.

Raptors are better, faster, more reliable and carry a longer warranty.
Closest thing to server quality that a consumer can use.

Oh, and get the 74gb drive. It's the fastest Raptor.

it's not just about gaming,... GDDR3 is just better tech.
heat is one of a component's worst enemy.
less stress to your system usually results longer lifespan.

go for more ram, and get better ram. Kingston, crucial, corsair or ocz. I can't say I've ever heard of A-Data. You know that the $266 price is supposed to be what the retailer/vendor is paying when they buy 1000 of them at a time, right?

yeah, I know about the price, but newegg pretty was much was spot on with the last price drop

and I had never heard of that A-data before either but that memory has better reviews than some of the brands you just listed for a lower price :dunno:

    Newegg reviews work like this:

If someone buys something and it works, it gets five eggs and a glowing review.

If someone buys something and it doesn't work, it gets one egg and a shitty review.

Newegg reviews only work if there are a large number of them. As such, you're better off buying the thing with the most reviews, not the thing with the highest rating.

I still say go with the Raptor.

The 74gb is 155 at newegg, plus a $20 rebate makes it $135.

You'll save more than that having waited on the quad core.

    Wirelessly posted via wap.offtopic.com (BlackBerry8300/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Yeah I agree about the newegg reviews, the a-data RAM has 200 something reviews and like 85% 5 star

They (a-data) seem to have their shit together.

I was looking into getting an 8gb usb stick, and they had the best performance/cost ratio going.
