I recently had a friend who tried to OD on pills but was fortunate enough to have friends call 911 before the pills had time to do the damage. She was in the hospital for 2 days and sent for observation for another 2 days. What can I do to help her without being overly cautious about everything she does?

Things that keep popping up in my head are...

What is stopping her from doing the same thing or trying something else at any moment?

She's gone to therapy for her depression and it has not worked... she was even on prescription antidepressants. What if these things don't work, what else is there to do?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. :sadwavey:

Well hopefully through the process of almost dying she realizes that people still care. Suicide is so often linked to a lack of attention and/or affection. Staying warm and caring with a friend without focusing too much on the incident is the best thing to do. Don't try to change them, just be super supportive.

    Very well said.

The best thing to do when a friend is in this frame of mind is to just be there for whatever your pal needs.
