A&P And the kit lens performs admerably... :(

So my Lowepro bag took a 3' dive today along with my Digital Rebel XT, Canon 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS, 80Gb iPod along with some other things.

The camera was kept in the upper zipper portion for quick access whilst the 70-300 was kept in the lower compartment along with some filters and covers. When it fell it landed bag face down slamming the camera into the iPod and floor (iPod was in the little front zipper).

When I pulled it out the iPod was fine, 70-300 was fine, camera was fine, kit lens had its focusing ring pushed in at an angle borking it good. Tested everything else and they work fine. If anything it played out how I unfortunately would've hoped a fall would be handled. Sucks tho because I felt I pulled some decent shots off with that thing. Kept me from spending more.

So I guess this is going to be one of those "best replacement kit/walk-around lens under $400" posts. But I'll thumb through the many already created first.

Ok, that Tamron looks pretty tits based on some Flickr shots. And the kit lens produces no "artsy" photos from it's new feature so it's toast.

Hey! Preferred Photo has it for pretty cheap....:mamoru:

I have the sigma and like it. Havent had any problems with it and the motor is pretty silent compared to the tamron. The tamron does produce sharper images though.

My Tamron sounds like fucking terminator. :mamoru: But it's a toss up if I bother to switch to my 50mm 1.4, it's that good.

Nothing to really look at. It physically looks like a tilt-shift 18-55 kit lens, but the photos aren't particularly artistic. DOF is the same, but now just locked in place. And for anything to be remotely sharp it has to be 2-3' in front of me.

Should have the Tam by Saturday if beards & hats ships it quick enough for 2-day. I ordered it yesterday afternoon.

Dropped my 28-135 attached to my 40d from my vehicle, it hit the rocker panel, my step bar, then the ground, took a small chunk out of the attachment threads and cocked the lense all weird

I twisted the focus ring, and it snapped back into place

    and works perfectly

If you had L glass, your rocker panel would've broke :eek3:

Snapped a couple quick shots. I'll play with it more this weekend but it feels like a good lens. Nice & solid, and like someone said, loud.

Took the kit lens apart today. In doing so I was able to correct the problem, but not until I had removed everything and forgot what went where.
