....and that seems to be it. Royce will have to fight no-gi. I see this as a mismatch.

It's gonna be a good fight. Doesn't meet the hype. I'm not dissapointed though because I didn't get my hopes up.

I wouldn't be surprised if he got more than Hughes for the fight

Look I love Royce and Matt but if Dana is going out to state a "historic event" , this is not that historic. You are putting an aging man against a man in his prime. God.. I'll still watch it though but god damn it Dana, you fkn girl you.

Hughes is being babied. The UFC needs to get straight to the Hughes-GSP rematch.

seriously...i mean...GSP should have already gotten his title shot...UFC knows that both GSP/BJ penn are the only REAL threats to hughes...but they eliminate the possibility of hughes having to face both of them...then they bring in Royce gracie...who did absolutely nothing to deserve a title shot...just to make hughes look good and have his title defense record go up...GSP is getting shafted

What!? Hughes is babied!?!? In the last couple years he has gone against top fighters such as Frank Trigg, GSP, Renato, Sherk, Newton, BJ Penn, & Sakurai to name a few. All top fighters.

Yeah I know many say Renato should've won the fight but it really could've gone either way (cept for the horrible 27/30 1st round from one judge, that was just bad judging) and Hughes did lose to Penn. But the point is, outa the last couple years, Hughes was not given easy fights or "tomato cans".

My guess is probably 1m/1m. Thats the only thing historic about it, the UFC is finally paying someone professional athlete wages:rolleyes:

Not that I don't want to see the match, but this was a HUGE let down considering it was billed as the biggest announcement in MMA history... Unless he has updated his skills, I think Gracie will be in trouble... Granted, Gracie fought and defeated much bigger men than Hughes, but not ones who are as widely versed as Matt and most of the modern day fighters... Just like a great striker, a great submission artist always has a chance... All it takes is 1 mistake by Hughes, and he could find himself tapping pretty quick...

    The next announcement is....

    **Drum roll please***

UFC & WWE will become 1

Laugh all you want, mock all you want but I have found lots of fighters mini articles voicing their concerns.

I mean look at TUF 3?! It is all about ratings... How about TUF4 we try and land REAL coaches/trainers with people like Pat Miletich??? Obviously the fans that appreciate the true sport are less important then the new uneducated crowds.

However, I am going to definitly go against the grain and say the Royce is going to put Matt down in the first round via sub. We keep getting ahead of ourselves, forgetting the past, this isn't like a 1940 hockey team playing the Red Wings... This is the man, as he said, this is his ring. But the beauty is, we can banter about this for the next 4 months but it doesn't matter since anything can happen in the ring.

The TUF series is all about getting new fans interested in UFC... These new/uneducated fans will become educated as they watch more and more fights... I know I went from being someone who only liked stand up/striker fights to someone who can appreciate a good chess match ground fight... It was a slow transition for me though...

I also doubt someone like Pat Miletich would leave his team for a few months to do a reality tv show... While Tito and Ken might not be the best trainers, it will be VERY entertaining to watch them coach against each other... Outside of the few people who actually fight mma and are watching for technique, the vast majority of us are watching because it entertains us... Isn't that the point?? I will NEVER fight mma, but it has became my favorite sport...

No I don't but to say Pride isn't a dog and pony show is pretty silly. They throw their stars more cans than a recycling center, and keep getting more and more K1-esque freakshow matches that are good for nothing more than entertaining the twisted japanese public.

There are some great fighters in pride, some of the world's best. The competition Pride feeds them, however, is usually sub-par. extremely sub-par.

What the... Pride is much more like the WWE than the UFC is. Zulu, Giant Sylva, people with zero previous MMA experience being on the big show is proof enough. They put on a dog and pony show and are proud of it. The UFC makes an event that could draw in old and new fans, and they get crap for it.

I don't get the Pat Miletich reference. Are you saying that Tito and Ken weren't good choices?
