i'm sure you could probably find a used remington 1187 for quite a bit cheaper. i haven't heard a lot about that particular model, but mossberg makes decent stuff.

not lookin to go used, and its pretty inexpensive enough as it is...

it will most likely come with the 3 basic chokes

    improved
    modified
    full

I would look for an Rem 1100 or Rem 11-87 but Moss does make some decent stuff and my son has been shooting a Charles Daly 20ga and I like it too.

Auto loaders are generally junk until you step up in the Franchi price range.

If you don't do a lot of shooting - you can get away with something like a Stoeger 2000 though.

I prefer O/U over auto's for Skeet. I don't know why, just feels better to me. A friend of mine has a Mossy O/U that he got for about 450 or so that's held up well. Not going to be ideal for defense though. :o

And bursty is right, Pump > * for fun factor. Reacquisition of the next bird after pumping is more challenging.

yeah, I have never enjoyed myself much when shooting skeet with a pump...:dunno: always have a much better time with my dads semi.

    and I don't really want an O/U

My cousin has a Mossberg 935 (their first semi), and it's a huge piece of shit.

I'd rather spend the cash on a time tested firearm.

I agree, if I wanted to go cheap I'd get a Franchi or Stoeger since they're based on the Benelli inertia system, which is a fucking tank.

I reckon I'll go with a mid level beretta or a remmy 1187

if I go with a beretta be a tad more then I wanted to spend, but it'll probably be better in the long run I guess.

Best shotgun tube extension is nordic components. They make several sizes so you don't have to get the super long one like mine. The make a nice +4 that will give you 8+1 and be almost flush with the barrel (will extended past the barrel 2" for the proper race gun look). I've owned or handled everyones extensions the nordic is just better. The extension is 3 pieces with a oversized nut, the tube, and a threaded end cap. Inside of the tube is high polished. The threaded end cap is cool for releasing spring tension (so the spring doues not wind up and coil when screwing on the extension (long story but this happens and will hurt feed reliability, and damage the spring if your not careful)

The dave's metal works tube is good too. It's beefy but heavier.
