I love how anti-gun people throw around the term "defenseless animal" when referring to hunting, while we have thousands (millions?) of animals being raised in little stalls in farms their whole life just to be shot point-blank in the head once they're nice and meaty.

"Enough is enough. Guns kill people, and there is no reason why this should ever occur. In case you didn't get the memo, contrary to what is shown on TV, violence is not an acceptable form of conflict resolution, and the simple, little process called 'speech' is much easier and better at solving problems."

I'd like to see him talk himself out of a robbery, rape, or murder. That would be interesting.

I love how when they are trying to villianize guns its always the idiots, the darkies and the inbred rednecks with guns that are the problem. But as soon as they can't get legislation passed its a small minority of the us population (~75 million) who are mainly white college educated and making over 75k a year that are bankrolling the NRA and forcing their views on the rest of us.

Come on folks pick one description of gun owners and stick with it, either criminals or elitists. Heaven forbid we are the gun next door.

    my reply

Chris, I just read your article posted on The Daily Campus. As crazy as i think your opinions are (and thankfully they are your opinions) Id like to point out a few flaws in your article

    ----------------------------------
If there is one thing anyone can be sure of in this country, it is that Americans love guns. Not a day goes by when you don't see a fine American citizen killing some poor, defenseless person/animal I will start here, Are you a vegetarian? If not what about all those poor defenseless animals who are kept captive and then killed without the chance of running away to be processed and sent to your local grocery store so you can eat. with a .50 caliber hand cannon on television, or you hear about some random act of violence (a bank robbery, a homicide, or a crazed postal worker) Can you even acknowledge the fact that most of these crimes are committed with firearms that are stolen or were illegally obtained by a person who is already barred by law to be in the possession in the first place which involves a gun in some respect. Therefore, being a proponent of living in general, I think it's about time we as a country threw in the towel when it comes to the whole "I'm from America, and I have a God-given right to kill and spread carnage whenever I feel like it" gig and adopt a platform of life. Please show me where it says anywhere in the bill of rights that we can go on any killing spree that we like.

Nothing is more ironic than your average conservative Republican who vehemently cares about not using a couple of cells for stem cell research (that just get thrown out anyways) and claims that they care about life, but yet they have a large enough arsenal in their cellar to single-handedly occupy Paris even assuming one has the quantity to do as you say. The most a single person can use at once is two. Do you buy toilet paper by the individual roll or do you by in a case of several. Sure you can wipe your ass a lot of times, but you cannot use it all at once. (for purely hunting purposes only, mind you). If we are going to take this approach as a country, then every time I get a nose bleed I better call an ambulance to save the thousands of cells from dying.

The simple fact is that guns serve no tangible purpose anymore. The main reason why we created the whole Second Amendment was something along the lines of protecting ourselves back in the 1700s from the people we stole our land from; aka Native Americans This is where you are completely off base, It is a well known fact that the 2nd amendment was create to make sure the people could fight back against a tyrranical government. Please reread the 2nd amendment again. , who, in my book, we should still be paying reparations to as an apology for the numerous instances of rape, theft and murder that occurred at the hands of 'true' Americans Why should I be paying reparations to a group of people that I never could offend ( and im not talking about the type of cry babies who cry because they are called fat ) in my lifetime, As they have been dead for over 150 years. . Oh, and we can never forget the necessity of a firearm to protect your log cabin from being invaded by bears. Would you prefer we defend ourselves from bear attacks by using a rock? a stick? how about a leaf?

But wait, if we stopped having guns and if we even took it to the level of decreasing our military arsenal as well, it would be much harder for us to start wars So would America be a much happier place if we opened the door for say China or North Korea or Russia to come waltzing right in and take control because we no longer have the defensive strength to protect ourselves? , the classic American past time. Forget baseball, nothing makes a real American man happier than a beer in one hand, the controls to a flat screen LCD TV in the other, and the latest front line report from Fox News in front of him, fresh with depictions of carnage and massed destruction brought to you live from some country in the Middle East that we can't (or don't bother to learn to) pronounce anyways. Yes, because we all enjoy seeing our brothers, sisters, and friends being killed in a foreign war.

But hey, who cares? We as Americans are pros at conveniently blocking out death tolls from across the globe as long as the victimized masses are not 'one of us'. So because the mass media and high ranking government officials decide to report world news as they see fit, The American people are the ones to blame for this? Also why are you so worried about what happens to someone in another country who hates you just because you are a American

Unfortunately, we do the same within our own borders as well. With gun proliferation at an all time high, people are being mowed down all across the nation in random acts of violence. Yeah, I and millions of other Americans cannot walk in our yards without worrying about being assaulted by millions of random bullets coming from all over the place

But once again no one cares - at least not until it's a cute little white girl holding a lollipop that gets killed walking down the road on her way to school. Then it's an epidemic. Then it's a crisis beyond any known to man. Then something must be done. But as long as it's the poor, undereducated, non-white segments of the population being slaughtered by the newest fresh out of the box Glock, we just plainly don't care. This here sounds like you have a inferiority complex. And if racism is a big thing to you, If you stop looking for it in every aspect, maybe you would see it is not as prevalent in society today as you would think it is.

If it is really that hard for one to lay down their arms and live a life of peace and prosperity, then perhaps it is due to a lack of better things to do. I have thus constructed a list of possible activities to take the place of killing in your weekly planner.

Options range from, but are not limited to: ice skating, basket weaving (a UConn specialty), planting a tree, learning to play an instrument, helping the poor, helping yourself, taking long walks on the beach, and finally, my personal favorite, survivalism taught first hand in the 21st -century epic that you and I know as "Man vs. Wild."

All of these activities not only don't involve firearms and the slaying of the innocent, but are both time consuming and recreational (or in the case of "Man vs. Wild," a stroke of pure genius). Yeah, the Man vs. Wild was a great example. Especially after Bear Grylls was proven to have been a fake. And exactly is how struggling to survive in the wilderness going to help when someone comes at you with a knife or gun if it pleases you. Im sure squeezing milk out of a coconut will help in this situation. Anyways I'm glad that you have various ways to keep your day busy instead of killing random people like the rest of society does every day.

Enough is enough. Guns kill people, and there is no reason why this should ever occur. In case you didn't get the memo, contrary to what is shown on TV, violence is not an acceptable form of conflict resolution, and the simple, little process called 'speech' is much easier and better at solving problems. Yes speech does work. Lets go look at the UN. One of the most (if not the most) unorganized organizations in the world. Who do nothing but talk about the worlds issues, and never act upon them. Time and time again, One may talk, But the man with the stick gets the job done.

I know there are some of you who will continue to live in your sad and pathetic world of hate, and that you will laugh while reading this article when I speak of peace and a world without firearms. And I pity you, I really do. I pity you because you are so diluted that you believe a perfect world is possible, when nothing in the world will ever be perfect. We are called "humans" for a reason. We all make mistakes and we will all continue to do so. Some people make big mistakes and others little. You need to stop dwelling on the inefficiencies of mankind.

I can tell you from personal experience, that seeing someone die is not funny; it is not a joke; and you wake up every morning and pray to God that you will never have to see something as horrible as that ever happen again. Here is the only thing that i will agree with you on. Watching someone die is not funny. But when it comes down to someone trying to kill me or you, I bet you will be glad there are people out there willing to defend our lives because we have our rights to defend ourselves and choose to take action.

Dear David Well thought out and researched man,

You well researched and facts that smell of truthfulness support a conclusion that I am not willing to support nor acknowledge. In light of said facts I have turned to falsified information and emotional appeal to make my argument, furthermore being a journalist makes me a well respected member of society and my opinion more valued than yours. In closing you are a pro-gun person, which is a section of society I do not respect nor wish to interact with.

May you be raped by a million rabid puppies,
