AMD XP chips

    i have a 1700+ right now. whats the highest chip in can drop in? 2200+?

    Depends what your motherboard can support. You'll have to tell us the motherboard model too. :)

    its a K7VTA3 V2 it says Elitegroup on it.

    That's an ECS board. Any of the Athlon XP chips will work, just depends how much you want to spend on it. Check http://www.newegg.com for the prices, and just buy the fastest one you can afford. :dunno:

    Be careful you don't buy a chip that has the 333fsb like Barton or latest iteration of Tbred. Check the site to see if there's a bios update for it though.

    i saw that, pricewatch.com had a listing for each chip with 333 and without. i think the best chip for the money is going to be a 2400+.

    as long as the mobo supports it will i have to worry about ram? i have 512 pc2100 ddr. and can i pretty much swap the chip or does anything else need changed?
