Yes yes i am an AMD virgin, i have been a dedicated intel man my whole life but i switched to ATI this year and i'm thinking i might as well switch to AMD while i'm at it.

Advice needed on a motherboard (socket 939) for the athlon 64 3500+ (rave reviews). I need AGP, onboard lan, onboard 5.1. I've been researching for 2 weeks and have 2 in mind for my selection. I would like to get online feedback to whoever has it as well.

    Thanks.

    First : MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum

Distant second : Asus A8V Deluxe.

The MSI is faster and more reliable. The nForce3 chipset is better than the KT800, as well.

I got a msi neo2, had troubles with it booting for the first time though. It won't boot if the power is disconnected and then reconnected, without clearing the cmos. Everything else runs great

i'd go with the neo2 platinum as well, alot of peeps i kow have it and it overclocks very well. the KT800 chipset seems to fall a bit short of the NF3 (isn't it ultra?)

Thanks Captain Obvious. I'm not sure what that has to do with me saying I've had no problems with my MSI board.

it uses the 350 Ultra right? Last time i looked at one i thought it said 350. That's the only chipset i've seen aweseome overclocks on (not to say the others are weak...jsut no one i know has a 250 or lower)

Nope. The nForce4 has no native AGP support, hence why the nForce3 will still remain, because many users WUV AGP cards!

Think of this: Let's say that I wanted to get an A64 config (As if! I love my dual 2600+'s:)). My AGP card is still serving me fine; why would I want to upgrade? Or, let's say that I have to spend much less than $200 on a graphics card to fit my budget. Good luck trying to find a fast one for PCI-E at that price, the 9700 Pro owns all in that price range.

The bottom line is, people can't always upgrade everything at once, or pay a premium for newer, more pricey technologies. That's why nForce3 will still be around for a LONG time.

I got my 9700 Pro refurbished off Newegg for $130, by the way :). Talk about ownage.
