what is the difference between thier chips....

    there is the 3500,3800, FX-35, FX-55, etc.
from looking at the specs i dont see big differences, is there something i am missing other than the price. i am building a gamaing computer and am looking at the 3800+ but is the extra cost worth getting the FX's?

yes, please do not post recommendations for cpus if you do not know. The 3500+ and 3800+ are both 939-pin Athlon 64 cpus.

  8. Let me say it again "i agree, no need FX go A64, if you think thats money better saved."
sorry about the fucking typo.! :naughty:

3500+ is 939... A quick glance would make it seem the 3700+ is 754... If that's the case, get either the 3500+ or 3800+, which are 939-pin.

    Always get retail.

also, retail comes with it's own heatsink and fan, which means that you won't have to buy your own and install them, which is just a hassle unless you are gonna overclock.

edit: I just realized that you still have to install the one they send. The way I said it, it sounded like they came preinstalled.

thanks everyone...so you are saying the FX's are not worth the extra cost.. i will use the computer for the basics and also for playing games like HL2, WOW, Doom, Final Fantasy 11. i just heard the FX's are only worth it if you are going to run multiple apps that are complex and not needed for games?

FX would be good for games, its just not worth the cost over the other a64 cpu in my opinion. spend the money elsewhere where it would make a bigger impact, like a videocard.

yup.. Like everything else in life, there is usually something better -- but that doesn't mean it's worth the price.

Good luck finding a 3500+ (that is if your looking for the Winchester core). Every place that sells it is sold out and has raised the prices. I got mine for $310 w/ free 2nd day shipping from www.zipzoomfly.com . They have since raised the price to $335 but don't have any in stock. Newegg raised their prices to $345 but haven't had any in stock since last month.

I have several 3500+ retails in stock and my distributor shows high-availability on their price list. No hike, either :shrugs:
