I e-mailed the reporter and this is his reply "He was paid $200 for two photos and will receive 50% of any revenue AP generates from the photo. It was taken out of the story and I don't know why. Probably for space".

It was funny because most of the comments either asked about the pay or were complaints about posting a story about a photograph without a link to the photo.

That doesnt look like a 300mm lens shot at all. It looks like a normal/mid range zoomed and cropped.

300mm should get you able to crop right onto the full plane in frame.

And the image looks grainy. Doubt its a D3.

"This picture provided by J.P. Karas shows Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on the runway after arriving at Detroit Metropolitan Airport from Amsterdam. A passenger aboard the plane set off firecrackers Friday, causing a commotion and some minor injuries, a Delta official said. Delta and Northwest have merged."

    WAT... lol

lol reading the article it sounded like he was using some cheap P&S camera.. but the last paragraph says:

"Karas said he took the photo with a Nikon D3 digital single-lens reflex camera and a 300 millimeter lens from a distance of 300-400 yards."

That image has been uploaded and resized countless times since it was submitted the first time. Plus he could have been every bit of 400 yards away. I know there are places like Hartsfield Airport where the planes go right over auto traffic, but that Fruit of the Boom plane was probably taken to one of the deepest recesses of Metro Airport.
