    Cross posting from fred miranda.

[FONT=Geneva, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]So I decided it was time to upgrade from the D70 to the D80. I called the local camera shop thats closest to me and went and picked one up. Brought it home, took a few shots and found out that my LCD had 3 dead pixels in it. They were very noticable and I called the shop and the manager said "Sure bring it back and swap it".

So I thought that was pretty cool and I took it back, they swapped it and all was well. Well, until I started shooting with it at least.

I took the camera out this morning to do some test shots with it and just play with it in general (How can you resist right? [IMG]). Well, unfortunately I found that I had dead pixels in the CCD this time. I wasn't happy.

I called the camera store back and spoke with the manager and he told me that unless its contigous Canon and Nikon do not consider it defective and acctually referred me to Ken Rockwells site. This kind of irritated me. I mean, I understand that hot spots happen and as do dead pixels, but at ISO 100? That didn't seem right.

I took the camear back and the manager was pretty upset. He said I was being unreasonable and even took a stab at my inexperience claiming that film guys have been dealing with this for years and my expectations are unacceptable. At that point I was pretty steamed and made a decision never to spend my money there again.

So thats my story, my question is do you feel I'm being unreasonable? Is my expectations through my D70 and my use of a D200 to have a flawless ccd at low iso's "unreasonable"? If this is what I have to expect to technology beyond the D70, I'll probably just be sticking with that.

Another side note, does anyone know how many releases should come on a camera from the factory? When looking at the exif data on one of hte images I noticed my first shot with the camera was acctually the 83rd release. Made me wonder if maybe someone else had brought this camera back as well before me.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your input.

I think I would be the same way ... a dead pixel on you LCD is one thing, dead one on your CCD is another thing al together. That dealer is shit

Man, the manager loses all credibility by referring you to Ken Rockwell ;)

Call into Nikon customer service, and have them fix it for you.

His argument was that film shooters have been dealing with dust in dark rooms for years. I understood the reference, but apparently he didn't understand the difference between dust and malfunctioning equipment.

Every single camera you get from Nikon is going to have dead/hot pixels. If they don't show up in your pictures, forget about it.

Try contacting Nikon direct? Sounds like the dealer is being a prick.

    no deads on my d80.

If it did, i'd take it back. and if they gave me the same shit that you got, I'd be pissed. I spend that sort of loot, I expect it to perform perfectly. If it doesn't, it's going back.
