    85 1.8D

found a great deal on it and wanted to see how I liked the focal length before dropping 850-900 on a f/1.4

Guy sent me some sample shots too, looks like a nice sharp copy

Is the 1.4 worth the dollar difference?

the 1.4 is sharper and built better.

I'm actually liking the idea of the lightweight glass after carrying around the beast for so long.

a friend of mine says the canon 85/1.8 focuses faster and is much better for basketball/sports than his 85/1.2 mkII

I'm not sure how the nikon 1.8 compares to the 1.4 in terms of focus...

I know myself, and if I get the 1.8 then I'll eventually want the 1.4! So, I think I'm just going to go for the big boy and not hassle with the potential loss of money selling the 1.8 later. I'm still debating if I want a FF fisheye or the DX. Price difference is huge, so I might settle for the DX since it'll be a specialty 'wedding dance floor' lens anyway. I'm almost where I want to be in my lens collection. After that, everything is going to be icing and secondary stuff. :run:

I've got the 85 1.8 and while I've only used it on a few shots, I really like the lens.
