OK, currently I'm around 155 pounds at 5'8. I'm very lean and have decent muscle size and definition, but I just don't have very much extra size.

Currently I have my weight in grams in protein a day. I eat very large sized meals always - like, to the point where I can't eat anymore.

Anyway, here's how my week looks

M: Upper body, high reps, low weight
T: Lower body, high reps, low weight, elliptical + spinning
    W: Rest
Th: Upper body, low reps, high weight
F: Lower body, low reps, high weight, elliptical + spinning

I've been having great gains strength wise and have definately become more toned, but I haven't really become necessarilly bigger. I haven't gained more than a pound or two in weight.

My goal is to just get strong and defined, and I definately wouldn't mind putting on some more size. I'm just wondering if, since I already have a very high metabolism, doing cardio is bad for size gain?

I'm just built like a sprinter. I feel like I'm stuck with this build forever :hs:

Just bump up the calories. You dont have to necessarily have to quit doing cardio, just have enough calories to where you are still in surplus

Just slowly add in more food. For the next 2 weeks or so, add in another little 200-300 calorie snack. After that, try and add another 200-400 calories somewhere. You just have to get used to eating more

    I'd skip the spinning :greddy:

If it's an actual spin class I assume they work you pretty hard so you might be burning up a lot of cals. Nothing that one meal can't fix though

Replace the food you are eating now with food that has more calories

I lost 15lbs in high school doing a routine like that, except we did much more cardio (my o-line coach was a Marine Drill Sgt) like trail runs, pulling tractors in a sand pit, hill runs, etc. we did it everyday. you need to up your cals and cut out the spinning

you could even add some cardio to your upper days, like incline walking or the stationary

I personally found that if I run on a regular basis, that I cannot gain wieght past a certain point. By not running and just lifting, I have been able to put on much more lean muscle.

your splits are way too broad (ie upper/lower) are you trying to loose weight right now? you dont sound fat.

you need to specialize the split into a 4 day

i dont agree with that unless you're doing strength training. how could yuou possibly fit even 3 sets of chest, back, shoulders, arms in an upper body day in 60-90 mins>?

    :hsugh:

Upper/lower works really well and my gains have been great.

So why would I do something like shoulders and back the day after benching, which already works out my shoulders?

I never really stop moving when lifting either, I work hard and constantly. This is why I can get so much done in an hour and a half or so.

I did the upper/lower split for a while too, and thought I was making great gains. Then I started getting hard core, and doing one upper group per day, then one or two lower exercises, then I have compound day, then take a couple days off. I found that I didn't have enough energy to achieve technical failure, or even just get a good workout, when I worked more than one group per day.

I don't have an answer for you on cardio, but if you changer your spllit to something that concentrates more on each individual muscle group, you will propably see even better results. My last two months have been kinda astonishing.

Because you dont stop and rest for a very long time you are keeping your heart rate up therefore buring calories, it seems liek everything you do , whether it be cardio or lifting, the pace at you do it and the amount of rest that your alotting in your work out is keeping your heart rate up, you just gotta eat more because your expending a lot more energy (calories) then you are consuming. I'm 5-7 , i was about 135 lbs 3 years ago and know i'm 165-170 and i was on sereum creatine, then switched back to effervesent and know i've been off of of creatine for about 2 years.
