Last night I went back up to Bass Pro to shoot some more (got bored). While
I was talking to the range officer, he had to go into the range to help some
hot chick and her little brother learn to shoot. They were the only ones
    there.

About that time some scumbag with tons of tats, piercings and whatnot comes
up to me and starts randomly talking to me.

He spent about 5 minutes pretty much telling me he was a badass, how he
shot a 44 mag at 50 yards in that range (it doesn't go 50 yards, and they
won't let you shoot a 44mag there), plus he shot the center out of the target
every time, amongst other things. He had a Mini14, shoots pennies with 100%
accuracy at 100 yards....on and on with some unbelievable shit. I overheard
him tell the knife counter guy that he stabbed someone who attacked him
    "wit a fiddy" :greddy:

Eventually he asked what I was shooting(said my xd and my sig), told me my XD9 wouldn't stop
him with all 16 rounds because "it's just a pussy 9mm". Then he goes, "so,
did you shoot up all your ammo?" At this point I start getting pretty wary
    of this jackass.

I told him "maybe, you never know". Then after a minute or so where he
watched the range officer help the chick on the other side of the glass he
gets really interested in whether or not I have a CHL.

Then we sat and watched the girl's ass for a minute. He goes "so....headed
    out soon?"

Eventually he and his party left, but they never got out of sight of where
I was standing. I hung around and talked with the range officer, the chick,
and her little brother (he just bought his first gun and couldn't hit anything
but had a lot of good questions).

I left the store with a mag in my pocket(and my hand in that pocket), slide
open, pocket open on my range bag. I was a bit surprised I didn't see that
guy's crew in the parking lot, but I think security eventually ran him and his
crew out of the store for just kind of standing around at near closing time.

Also left with a card for Bass Pro's CHL class in my wallet.

Definetly sketchy, but good call. Hang out until he leaves. No open carry law in your state?

That's definetly one time where I wouldn't hesitate to OC. Sounds like you handled it well, good motivation to get your CCW :coolugh:

    I wish.

The guy was legitimately stupid, so when I was considering the scenarios
I'm like "yeah, he COULD be that stupid to make his intentions that obvious"

FWIW, granted I have a CHL which you're working on, but I always have 1 loaded pistol on me when I'm shooting. I'll keep a BUG or something. If I'm shooting a BUG my primary is loaded and holstered. I don't care what range rules may say, the less they know the better.

+1 That's especially true for where I shoot since it's a public range with no one supervising. There can be some ghetto ass people there with no idea what they're doing.

I have a CHL. I always go to the range with my carry gun on my hip. When I get there and drop the mag and eject the round from the chamber and put that mag aside.

When I leave, I pack up all my stuff then grab my carry mag, put it back in the gun, rack the slide and then holster it. I always leave with my gun ready for carry.

I only have one gun, but I keep one mag loaded at all times with my carry ammo. That one doesn't get shot. Comes out of the gun when I get there, goes back in before I leave.

Once I finally get a .22 target pistol, I will more than likely be shooting that exclusively for a couple months. During that time I will definetly be carrying my 19 loaded at the range.

Just another reason to get more guns :x:

:werd: lots of people seem to have a defensive weapon and in most cases its not too concealed.

Keeping an extra loaded mag on you at all times is a good idea while at the range.

Guns are valuable to criminals for reasons other than their monetary value. If you have guns about your person, always have one ready to defend yourself and your arsenal with.
