    From my training log today

    Squats

    135x2x20 seconds in the hole
    135x10
    5x5 @ 225, 235, 245, 255, 265

    asked for a spot on the 265 from a guy in the gym, "oh sure bro no problem man lets do it"...on the last one i decided i had a 6th rep in me, i go down, my hips shoot out and i tell him i'm going to dump it, he panics, grabs the bar and jerks it backwards for some reason, i fall backwards and my left hand gets caught between a 265lb bar, the pin on the left side, and the cage of the squat rack; he freaks out, takes his hands off wide eyed while I yell "PUSH THE FUCKING BAR FORWARD AND OFF MY HANDS" and it takes him i shit you not ~10 seconds to get the bar off of me and get me out from under it. hand is all bruised and swollen now, looks like nothing is broken though

    :mad: i should've known this would happen since he was a skinnyfat guido in a headband and wifebeater

    sucks that happened to you... i've had some GREAT spotters before at the gym and also some SHITTY spotters.

    can you explain the "135x2x20 seconds in the hole" part though? i've never seen that before.

    did you stay in the "ass to the grass" position for 20 seconds for 2 reps as part of your warmup?

    yeah, chris suggested it to me as a way to improve my hip mobility, which currently blows

    I put a plate on each side and basically sit as low and A2G as possible, keeping my form solid, and wait 15-20 secs, then spring back up, rerack, rest and do it one more time

    seems to be helping me though, i feel a lot more locked in at the bottom when i go to squat

    I smashed my hand a few weeks back. Had 2 50 lb dumbells resting on each knee getting ready to do a warm up set on flat bench. My mp3 player falls out of my pocket, so I rest the dumbells on each other and go to reach down for the mp3 player. They shift and smash my pointer finger on my left hand. I felt like such a dumbass and the only person I had to blame was me. :hs:

    i did exactly that last year, and yeah you feel so dumb afterwards, like "man i should've seen that shit coming."

    maybe i should wear a helmet to the gym or something for my own sake

    My first thought was "holy shit, I've done this like 1000 times. How have I not smashed my hand before?" I felt so stupid afterwards.

    just set the pins higher and dump it next time....no need for a spotter...

    i usually do, but i was going nearly A2G on these and the normal pin level i use was a little to high...and the next lowest one basically has me squatting and sandwiched really hard with an arched back if i ever dumped it, figured i'd ask someone to help..i know better now

    Why not just dump it on the bars? Even if they are lower

    because these are set low enough that if i lean forward to dump, I look like DW trying to blow himself and it's uncomfortable as fuck

    and if i lean backward, i risk doing to my hadn what i did today

    i dunno maybe i'm not dumping it right though, when the pins are a notch higher I just dump it forward and have np with it, but going A2G at that setting the bar ends up banging the pins at the bottom of each rep

    I don't usually ask anyone for a spot. If it's too heavy I just won't risk it and go a little lighter and do a few more reps.

    I was doing DB Military press with 90's, some kid said you look like you need a spot. I said sure, and he had his hands supporting underneath my elbows which is fine. However, when I was coming down he took his hands off without telling me and the DB's pretty much dropped to my sides. I'm lucky I didn't tear a shoulder. Kid apologized and I was so pissed I just ignored him.

    If I am in a rare mood and ask for a spot, the dude needs to be way bigger than me. I could care less about someone assisting me too much, I just don't want to get hurt.
