I've been having problems with my old version of Acrobat 5.0. I tested 8.0 and while it was nice, it too seemed to have more things that annoyed me, than benefited me. So, i'm seeking alternatives.

I primarily need just a pdf creator. I've used PrimoPDF, which is nice, but the interface seems lacking, imo.

On occasion i need to edit already-existing pdfs, which is where i havent found any alternative. Is there an app that can edit a pdf, other than Acrobat?

I'd like to stay in the free realm, but if there's a quality program out there that will do what i want, i'll pay for it.

Adobe has an online PDF creation service now. Also, Office 2007 can generate PDFs. As far as editing them is concerned, that's harder to pull off without Adobe -- PDF was always intended to be a distribution format.

No Office 2007 love for me here... not yet anyways. I know its a distrobution format... but I author them... so i occasionally need some of the tools that Acrobat would provide (merging pdfs, for example).

I currently use Foxit Reader... but as the name suggests, it is just a reader.

    The programs I know about:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdfcreator/

OpenOffice.org exports PDFs too. Dunno if there's a fully functional alternative to Acrobat...

I like Office 2007. I've been using it for a few months now at work, and the "ribbon" is actually very effective. Much better than digging through 11ty billion menus.

Foxit is my favorite reader. It's just too fast and compact.
