I've had knee problems, and recently knee surgery to fix problems with my knees, so I can't really run or jog with experiencing a great
deal of pain. I can sprint sometimes, but no long distance running or anything like that. The problem is I need to lose weight (6'1" 225). I
have a stationary bike, but is that the best alternative?

I had ACL surgery in January. I've done the stair master as my main form of cardio since then. Interval training on that is the best cardio I've ever done. Depending on what your knee issues are, it may be okay to do this. I'd say give it a shot and see if you experience any pain.

Thanks for the advice, pretty shitty swimmer but I guess practice will help. I like using the heavy bag though. Will probably do both of those and the elliptical.

I do that along with jogging and basketball as my cardio.

I have one of the Everlast ones that sit on the floor and you fill with water/sand. It isn't as intense of a workout as an actual heavy bag, but it gets the job done.

With all cardio, is it just a matter of having your heart rate at 15+ min for max fat loss? How exactly is swimming>* then?

I swam two years in high school. I had to do the I.M. (All four strokes in one heat) I hope that swimming is a better alternative when it comes to cardio, i have to drop about 15 lbs in 1+ month. Hopefully with a good low carb/high protein diet, the weight will melt off, with lots of swimming and .......some lifting.
