watched The Two Towers again last night & noticed two scenes where reference is made to the chapters of the FOTR involving Tom Bombadil...

anyone know of any other scenes like this????

(i'm guessing plenty of you know about this already, but i'm sure theres someone out there who never realized) :big grin:

The first one i noticed was the verse Gollum chants while Frodo is questioning him during their journey across the Dead Marshes... the song was originally from FOTR, and was chanted by the Barrow-Wight... (changed for the movie slightly)

    Gollum says:

"Cold be hand & heart & bone,
Cold be travellers far from home,
They do not know what lies ahead,
When sun will fail & moon is dead."

(if you're interested, the Barrow-Wight says in the book:
"Cold be hand & heart & bone,
and cold be sleep under stone,
never more to wake on stony bed,
never, till the sun fails & moon is dead.")

the other scene i noticed was in Fangorn forest when Merry & Pippin are drinking the Ent-Draught. The tree starts to swallow them up into the ground & Treebeard arrives & gives out Bombadils line:

“You should not be waking! Eat earth! Dig deep! Drink water! Go to sleep!”

Bombadil originally says this to Old-Man Willow when the tree tries to swallow up the Hobbits, when they first meet him.

the one scene where legolas and gimli were fighting over who had the most kills was hilarious

the scene where the orcs were running into the woods, and the trees owned the orcs was amazing too :eek3:

it seemed like Jackson wanted to keep like all comedy out of the movies for some reason :(

Not enough. He should have left out MORE comedy, and left some dignity for Gimli.

His father was an ass. But I still loved that scene and the way it depicted his love for his brother.
