...but I can't for the life of me figure out the answer.

I've got my eyes on an AR15 lower from DD's Ranch (online site) that comes with LPK and stock installed. Do I go ahead and order the thing then call my FFL to give em the details? Or do I talk to the FFL first and let them deal with it? Never bought a gun on the internet before....

    Thanks WMD!

talk to FFL and make sure they're cool with it. have them send any information to the place you want to buy from.

call the place you want to buy from, make sure they got the FFL information and they're cool with shipping it.

    buy gun.

let FFL know its on its way.

get call from FFL when its there

    ???

    profit

call them, see if they have your FFL on file. if not, he'll have to fax it to them. you then buy it, they ship to him, you do the BG check, pay the fee to him and bam.

and don't use a gunshop for something like this. they'll rape you for the transfer fees, and would rather you buy from them anyways. find a local guy who isn't a big store

at least that's my preference. YMMV

Sweet. I figured that was probably how it worked. I already talked to an FFL from back home (so I can order a non-retarded lower and then make it retarded before bringing it back to CA) and they said they do transfers. I'll just make sure this site is good by them.

    Thanks Hoss!

Make sure your FFL will do a transfer for you and find out how much he will charge.

You contact the seller and make arrangements for payment or make the payment. You get the seller's address, fax, or email address so your FFL can send a copy of his license.

You then go to your FFL, and either get a copy of his FFL license to mail with your payment, or have your FFL email/fax the copy to the seller. Be sure the seller knows what the name of your FFL is so he knows which gun it is for.

Wait for seller to ship gun to your FFL.

Your FFL calls and you go fill out the paperwork and pick up your gun.

The only problem I can see is that I'm about 1500 miles from the shop right now and they don't have any info of mine...can they order it without me being physically present?

you're not really "getting" it, are you.

you make sure the FFL and the seller have each other's info.
buy the fucking thing and the seller will ship to your FFL

when you get the 1500 miles to your FFL, you pick it up

Also generally you have to have residency in the state the FFL that you are picking the firearm up from (in this case a lower). Not sure in the 1500 miles is the same state as CA. Possibly you have dual residency I don't know. Just know also if doing the dual residency thing if your tax info is from another state your most likely going to get stalled on the NICS and will have to wait an additional 3-10 bussiness days depending on the state.

I go to school in CA (where am I presently) but am a CO resident. So it shouldn't be an issue, hopefully.

EDIT this is through a CO FFL

In that case you might not even need to california your AR. You can have a AW in state for 6 weeks at a time for competition purposes. Only problem you'll have is high cap mags as it will be easy to prove that you did not own them prior to the ban while living in CA.

My new FFL operates out of an ice cream/sandwich shop in one of the more well off suburbs around here. First time I went there he was wearing a chefs uniform making breakfast, there were people in suits reading gun catalogs. So fucking weird.

  20. That's awesome. Maybe his shop is a front for a bunch of assassins, and they were the ones in suits reading the gun catalogs.

Yeah it was pretty crazy. Its a really liberal part of town too, I was nervous he was going to get shit from his patrons but its obviously a normal thing there.

Then yesterday I'm at the shooting range/ gun store and someones yelling my name, sure enough its this ginger motherfucker open carrying a 1911. He works there too.
