clearly im not now.. my ground game is laughable and i can't go all out for 3 rounds ... but i want to fight, spending all my time 'training' is stupid if im not going to compete.

will my trainers tell/suggest it to me or do i need to let them know i want to step in the ring at some point ?

Tell your trainers that you want to fight eventually and then they will tell you when you are ready.

Thats how we do it at my gym.

When you tell them that you want to fight you might get invited to different training sessions or extra ones.

yeah, i think that's pretty much it ... like ive been going to all the regular group trainings, but then there are a group of people that train outside that .. and that's where i need to be :o

i guess i just need to let the trainers know where i want to go with this

Talk to your trainers, talk to the guys who compete in your gym.

Everything at training makes a whole lot more sense when you have a fight booked in youll love it.

You know you aren't ready, that at least shows you are mentally square.

I watched a seminar by some top mma guys and i remember one of them saying "You have no right even stepping into a cage until you are able to defend 99% of submissions and 99% of strikes."

I have to agree. Sure you can fight without a great defense, but it's really a stupid idea.

Compete in some grappling tourneys and some amateur kickboxing fights and then see how ready you are.

for people who've fought in more than just amature sparring sessions, how/when did you know you were ready to step it up ?
