I was looking at raid cards recently and I'm not sure what to get. I'd like it to have 8 or more sata ports on it. The most important thing I need is the ability to break the 2TB disk size limit. I don't want to carve 2TB disks out of my space, I'd like to have it all displayed as one. So if I have 5TB usable space, I have one 5TB drive not, two 2TB and one 1TB drives. I'm having trouble finding information related to this. Doesn't have to be high end or super fast. Just allow large raids and be reliable. I have a RocketRaid 4 port right now and I don't know if my 32bit OS is limiting it or if the card is limiting the space to 2TB. Educate me please and thank you.

    32 or 64 bit OS?
High end raid card, or simple card with enough ports?
    Can't be done?

    64-bit OS + GPT
RAID controller must have 64-bit LBA support

oops, yeah I looked up the right thing but typed it wrong in my question. The site you linked is much more descriptive than the ones I was coming across. Thanks again.

The thought of HD porn has always frightened me. I don't want to see their herps that clearly. I want to be able to deny their existence.

lol, I love how RAID leads to HD porn, leads to genetal warts, but no, I collect TV Series and Movies. I always convert the physical copy into a digital copy so I can stream them throughout the house to all the different computers and my media center. I have two 2TB raid 5 setups and I hate having to look in both places to browse for something to watch. I'd rather just have one huge ass volume that I could put everything in. Plus expanding that to 6-8TB would be nice as well cause I'm pushing the limit on my 4TB.

just keep in mind that if you ever have a problem with your filesystem, that's going to take forever to check.
