    INTEL® PENTIUM® 4 RETAIL P4 550 3.4GHZ LGA775 (NO PIN) 1MB CACHE 800MHZ FSB

    AMD-RETAIL ATHLON 64 3500+ CPU SOCKET 939 RETAIL BOX

I'm into gaming primarily, and I think I'll go with one of those because they won't be outdated for 1 year + !

    Opinions and WHY!

I personally went with the Intel, and I definitely do not regret it. The FSB on these things are crazy. Definitely get a genuine Intel board if you go this route.

If you go with the AMD, get the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum. Stay away from the Asus and the Via chipsets.

I would go with the AMD, since 64-bit is the new hotness (and since I use an OS that's available in a 64-bit production version).

AMD, I have a AMD64 and I love every minute of it. 64 bit os when developed some more, wont be that long, is going to own.

    Thanx guys.

I think I'll go with that AMD + MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum +... I was told my harddrive will now be my weakpoint. I don't want any weakpoints in my system. I have a 6800, Audigy2 sound.

    What are some reliable harddrives?

definitely go with the amd + k8n neo2 plat for gaming, that doesnt even need to be said really
for a hard drive, i'd recommend the 74 gig raptor and set your old ones as slaves for storage
