As the title says, I was excited to purchase a SD300 today ($244 shipped through Dell and various coupons), however after reading a scary amount of user reviews claiming they broke their LCD's (even after knowing the problem and take extra caution) I decided that it's not worth the risk.

I'm curious if anyone else has the same issue and any info you can tell me.

Otherwise, care to recommend a similarly styled (ultra-slim) and priced camera?

Anyone else? I want the camera (great reviews), but hesitant to pull the trigger and purchase it for fear of a broken LCD.

    Any experiences?

I'm affraid of ordering a new LCD cause I might get a dead pixel. So I'll continue to look at a CRT thats hopping around more than Ali ever did.

Live a little, get insurance, be careful

I plan on taking care of any camera I buy, however what got my attention was testimonials of individuals who were aware of the fragile LCD, took extra precaution, and still ended up breaking the LCD.

So, is this common with most of the ultra-slim cameras equipped with LCD's or is it a Canon problem?

i think it's canon's design at fault cuz i've never heard of such problem with the Sony T series, Pentax Optio S, etc

I got the SD300 and it's still good after a good summer of usage (i'm saving up for a rebel/d70)

I broke the LCD on my SD100 by getting too close to a fire. The camera still worked fine, just no screen. Canon wants $160 to replace the screen, so I just bought a SD300 instead. I've wailed the shit out of both and would buy another SDx00 with no reservations. Takes great pics, has great modes, very good video/audio quality, and in my experience, very durable.
