but i definately cannot afford a brand new apple...ive used windows all my life, linux for the past four years, and i am selling my dell notebook and using the money towards a mac...so im in the market for a used mac notebook...ive found a site called www.macofalltrades.com...they look failry legitimate...but what does OT think? is it worth it buying a used/refurbished mac? should i save for a brand new one?

    thanks in advance. :)

get a new mac mini if you have a monitor, or save another $100 and get a refurb macbook.

check often as what they are offering changes frequently...
and i'd get a refurb unit in a heart beat over getting a used one from somewhere else. apple refurbs come with 1 year apple care and they are basically brand new systems...

I bought a refurb about a month ago and have been nothing but happy with it. They even accidentally gave me a 160gb hdd instead of the 80gb one that was supposed to come with it :bigthumb:

You might be able to pick up a refurb'd macbook for around that price.

I love my refurb, I've seen the baseline macbooks for under a grand... maybe 900? I got mine with a superdrive for $1090 a few months ago.

I would agree that apple's refurbs are the best bet, but I think macofalltrades is a pretty nice site. There are some great deals bc the G4 powerbooks are still really nice machines. You'll find a nice system for your budget.
