    we absolutely crush everyone

soviet union is #2 in all time medal count, and we have double what they have.

serious question here, but what makes us so much better than everyone?

in no other nation can work ethic, determination, and competativeness pay off as it does in America

we need to keep this alive.

its mostly a product of socio-economic status and population.

maybe its because many athletes who compete for America are from other countries?

actually we should have way more gold medals than we do considering we are the #1 SUPERPOWER in the world and have the best of everything at our disposal. The Thinker at elitefts.com has written at length about this. Also if you add russia plus all the nations that broke away I think they surpass us. Look what Jamaica did this year. small poor country.

I'm no expert, but I'd imagine it's a product of being wealthy and well organized..elite athletes are identified early and have the resources they need, for pretty much any sport. A lot of countries don't even have adequate facilities.

Training methods, population size(larger top 1% athlete pool), and demographics - there are people of all ethnic backgrounds competing for the US, not so much for say Japan and Sweden.

Cuba dominates boxing despite having a fraction of the resources that a lot of other countries have.

Having the best equitment in the world doesn't mean anything if you don't have the same drive as your opponents.
