Have you ever played a game where it was awesome the first playthrough, but there really wasn't a draw to play it again? I'm mostly thinking of titles where the graphics/music/story/atmosphere is amazing and really draws you in, and when you look at the gameplay it actually it isn't that deep or compelling? For the games I've played this mostly reminds me of Okami, amesome art and music, story was interesting too. When I tried to do it over again it just felt like a chore.

This. Games like the Modern Warfares, Devil May Crys, Resident Evils, and pretty much any fighting game.

Beautiful, but extraordinarily repetitive and boring.

Most single player games I only play through once no matter how great the experience.

Multiplayer is always what keeps me coming back.

Fighting games are completely shallow. There is absolutly nothing besides endlessly playing 3 round fights. Unless you count Soul Calibur which is pretty terrible anyway.

@Maestro, true, but I feel like good gameplay is part of what creates replay value. I remember playing fire emblem: path of radiance (the gamecube one) and enjoyed the first playthrough on normal. After that I did it again on hard being more familiar with the game and it was quite satisfying. The style is still good, but it's those close moments where you narrowly avoid defeat that are really memorable. I suppose good gameplay doesn't have to be in a good challenge, but I think also in flexibility of play, being able to go about objectives in different ways.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance is that way

I tried to play through again, but because hard mode was unlocked I went that route, got my ass kicked hard in the underwater level..

    haven't looked back since.

    haven't played the second one.

im stopped buying my games except the games i know i would get a real value out of the multiplayer. any single player game, no matter how perfect reviews are, will just sit on the shelf collecting dust after 1 playthrough. the games nowadays are usually too shallow to playthrough twice. one exception was infamous. i liked the good/evil aspect with powers for each side etc....but i didnt feel the need to get a platinum trophy...

i used to buy a few games per month. but now i only buy a few games a year and i am much happier saving the money.

I recently played through bioshock again, and am currently replaying Dead Space. Both were fun single player experiences but as a whole most games are not worth a second play through.

Uncharted. It was fun the first time but it was so linear that it didn't warrant a second playthrough. I have several people on my PSN list that have Platinum for that game but that is just me.

Oh and Rainbow Six Vegas I for the 360. Game was awesome the first time, but once you get past the graphics, you realize it is a very mediocre game with an uninspired campaign and terrible AI.

I played through Uncharted again a week before Uncharted 2 came out as a kind of refresher. I enjoyed it :dunno:

Maybe it's because I hadn't touched Uncharted since it came out, which was almost 2 years ago.
