GUN All of a sudden, I want to build an accurate AR

Discussion in 'On Topic' started by Market Garden, Nov 2, 2009.

  1. I'm interested in something along the lines of a JP build with their 18" medium contour barrel and a compensator. I know yar mentioned he was thinking about a shorter barrel, and I think it was an 18", but I'm not sure.

I think it would be a fun rifle to shoot at the practical rifle matches, and just fun in general for medium range plinking.

I think yar was mentioning switching to a 16" barrel as hes got the ammo figured out.

I would go with a 20" but thats me

    you stole my idea :hs:

my SPR dream consists of 18" bbl, rifle length tube and gas system, 3-9x accupoint, and an LMTcrane stock

Why the hell would you put a LMT Crane stock on a SPR build?

    because its comfortable?

  7. Was it a 16 he was talking about? The 16 is the lighter profile barrel from JP, right?

Yea I thought so because he said it would be faster to transition from target to target that way. Think he has a 18" now, and its lighter because its missing 2" of barrel

  9. Cool, I wasn't sure if he was talking about going from 20 to 18 or 18 to 16.

would you need anymore than 16" if you had the right ammo and good barrel?

    EDIT: too slow :o

Depends on how far you want to shoot it, theres going to be more drop with a shorter barrel faster

  12. Not really, I mean, the extra velocity would be nice to help with wind issues at longer range, but it's definitely a trade off with the extra weight and length making it slower to swing.

Yeah, i'd say 18" isn't going to be something you're going to want to use tactically at all if you're moving around a lot :dunno:

of course, 18" is taller than me....

  15. It would be for stuff like practical rifle matches and just having fun. I wouldn't rely on it for HD or anything.

  19. I'm thinking something like this, with an A2 stock and the non-railed gas block.

    I've considered 6.5G :noes:

  24. Overkill for the kind of rifle matches we're shooting, and I'd cry about paying to feed it. Also, I'd hate to leave all that .308 brass behind, whereas with the 5.56 it's no big deal.
