Just got back from a trip to London and Oslo. On the train going from downtown Oslo to Oslo International Airport, my entire bag was ganked from the luggage rack directly above my head. :wtc:
    Here's the equipment I lost:
    Vertus AW 100 camera bag
    30D and 18-55 kit
    EF 50mm f/1.8 II
    EF 50mm f/2.5 compact macro
    EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5
    EF 28-70 f/2.8L
    EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 III
    EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS
    Memory cards, macbook, etc etc.

That being said, my homeowners insuance is LUCKILY covering my ass and i have the option of getting a check for the depreciated value. What do you guys think about the following setup?

    30D body
    EF-S 10-22mm
    EF 24-70 f/2.8L
    EF 70-200 f/4L IS
    EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS

OR should i go with this instead...
    5D body
    EF 24-70 f/2.8L
    EF 70-200 f/4L IS
    EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS

Cliffs: my shit got stolen, which would you pick? 30D & 10-22 or 5D.

5D! Don't ask me why, I'm in Nikon crew and don't know much about Canons. But I always thought 5D was cool.

    :o that sucks...

    I'd go with the 5D lineup, except I'd drop the 100-400 and grab a 16-35L f/2.8 instead.

I'm really leaning towards the 5D, even though i truly dont need it. I did like the 10-22mm on the 30D, i guess im sorta hoping 24mm will be shallow enough for me so i can compensate for the loss of my 1.6x magnification. I use zoom more than shallow and the 100-400mm would make up for my effective 480mm lens (300mm @ 1.6x).

Does anyone have a comparison of the same shot at 16mm and 24mm on a FF camera?

The reason i keep going back to the 100-400 is because I'm a little wary about getting a 70-200 with a 2x TC. Image quality is always a concern.

I like the idea of the 5D, but would have a REALLY hard time knowing that I could get 3 30D's for the same price. I shoot a lot of photo-journalism type stuff so I would lean to 2 30d's one with a fast/wide lens and another with a fast/long lens with IS. :dunno:

I have the same struggle. I don't necessarily need the extra MP's and i LOVE fast lenses so the noise at higher ISO's isnt an issue for me. Plus a 30D and 10-22 is slightly cheaper than the 5D. My main items that i shoot are cars, both moving and still. Telephoto is a must for me and honestly the 30D with its 1.6x magnification gives me more in that area plus less vignetting. And i can get just as shallow as a 5D can with that EF-S 10-22mm.

    I guess I'm sticking with a 30D then huh?

Sounds like it. I mean, yes it's sounds like you're idealizing the 30d so in your head it sounds better than the 5d..which is what humans do. But if the 30d honestly has all the things you want/need than why look further. I say go for it, but I'd still get 2 bodies. ;)

    Eh, 24-70 f2.8 > 24-105 f4 for me. I like the shallow DOF.

Oh and no 5D. Too expensive.

It is soooo tempting to buy it! However, a 30D with 10-22mm is $1730 from Amazon, way cheaper than a 5D. If i did a 5D i would have 24mm as my shallowest lens, compared to 16mm effective on the 30D. Not to mention there will be less vignetting when the lenses are wide open cuz of the crop and it adds 1.6x to all my zooms.

Going by a local shop that sells at MSRP, my shit would cost $5,950 plus tax to replace. Here is what im going to end up getting from Amazon once the dust settles:

    EOS 30D
    EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5
    EF 24-70mm f/2.8L
    EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS
    EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS
    EF 50mm f/1.4

    Total: $5,977.00 :run:

    Ditch the 100-400
buy a teleconverter for the 70-200 2.8 IS
    buy extra 30d body.

EVERYONE NEEDS TO GET THEIR SHIT INSURED ASAP

its soooo cheep and easy to do. your local insurer can do it for pennies on the dollar, 20k covered for PESONAL use was 199/yr with state farm.

for those making money with the gear, go with Hill and Ushire or Group Insure

No need for a spare body atm. Plus the 100-400 is much sharper than the 70-200 with a 2x TC. The push-pull design is actually pretty nice for following cars.

Pretty damn good list, but huge prime seems sorta limiting. I'd spend the extra $200 for the 100-400. The 5D automatically takes away my wide-angle budget, which cant happen.

It would be nice, but that 16-35 breaks the bank and I'd need the 2x TC to get the range I need.

However, what do you think about this?
    5D
    50 f/1.8 II
    17-40 f/4L
    24-70 f/2.8L
    70-200 f/2.8L IS
    2x TC

That rings up to $6250. That gives me full frame, wide-angle, FAST walkaround, FAST telephoto, cheap low-light prime, and a 2x TC for long-range.

    Now that makes me think...
