My rig was working perfectly about a year with no problems. Now Im getting crashes in mass effect and borderlands all the time. Only thing I did was restart my computer after leaving it on for a while.

Radeon 3870 palit 512mb and a core 2 duo with asus mobo. I tried both windows 7 and win xp and reinstalling drivers, still getting crashes.

Whats next step, buying a new vid card or forgetting pc gaming forever

does it only do it while you are in a game?

    any game?

or just a full screen higher end graphics game?

do you know if your video card fan is spinning?

    how hot is it getting?

is there a shit ton of dust in the heatsink and fan area?

did you try checking your services for error messages?

Check the inside of your PC for dust and bad fans.

This problem wreaks of overheating. :mamoru:

its definitely something in your system overheating. Although it appears you may have figured that out.

just sounds like an overheating issue.

add some more case fans, I have like 3 extra on top of the ones mine came with, totalling about 6 or 7. mine was getting bitchin hot without me knowing, wasn't crashing, but was getting way hotter than it was supposed to. q6600 w/ a 9800gt not the same as yours but overheating can always cause problems.

Your video card's fan might be broken have you checked it?
