I've got all access press/photo pass for an upcoming car show (its next weekend the 3rd and 4th).

Thinking about renting a multipurpose lens, I can get up high and take a photo of the whole grounds with a wide angle, and a wide angle would be good on some of the nicer vehicles to shoot.

    In OTAP opinion

    Canon 10-22
    or 16-35 f/2.8 L?
    or Sigma 12-24

ALSO I'll be on stage during Bikini contest as well....

    Shooting on a 40d with a 430ex, using a 50 f/1.4 that I borrowed, and a 70-200 f/4

Never shot so wide with digital yet on the cop sensor so I'm not 100% sure what I want

Thats why I ask :big grin:

    OTAP's opinion :x:

standard wide angle would do best. so the 16-35 will be your best bet.

i would go with the 16-35. if the next focal length up you are going to have is 50mm, jumping from 22 to 50 really removes a lot of the wide end standard focal length.

yeah get the 16-35. 50 and 70-200 are both going to be way too long to get good car shots. if you position yourself strategically the 70-200 could give you good coverage of the bikini event.

i would light the bikini event also, if it is in a convention center it will be almost impossible to get good pics with the ambient light.

It's outside, but I'm using the 430 for fill in case the light is behind the girls that I want to photo from the front, unsure of where the stage is.

the 70-200 is iffy for use, but I'm going to take it anyway, I highly doubt I'll use anything but the wide angle and 50 most of the time.

That's already been requested a lot, and I haven't even showed up yet LOL

Might take some extra lighting as well...

LOL wasn't sure if you'd see it before my ninja edit or not

I used to big into the MT scene but, now not so much, now I just sit back and make money off of side shoots :mamoru:

It's good marketing/getting your name out when you walk around with a press badge and a saturn V attached while everyone else is walking around with their XTi's and D40s :mamoru:, they see your badge and strike up conversation ask about shoots, etc etc, and it all works out

It has changed a lot though, no more cruising, lots less vendors, the fairgrounds is all torn up so I dont know what they are doing about that, but the DJ still sucks, and its still hot as hell with hardly any shaded area, an

I love clean MT but some of the crap that gets passed off as clean at that show is just scary...

amen, thats why i've dropped out of it so much, my mini sits in my shop, covered in an inch of dust and spider poop, and whatever else is in there... Big gash in the oilpan from draggin (hit an open man hole, someone stole the cover for scrap :o ) and it's stripped down and untouched for months....

I've mostly lost the drive because it's not about clean trucks/cars anymore, its about who got bagged the fastest, with the loudest airhorns and loudspeakers behind the grille.

    10-22

the 16 35 on a 1.6x crop body is unimpressive. Soon as I ditched the crop body for the full frame sensor, the 16 35 lens is being used more.

I agree.........go with the 10-22. If you need any more focal length than that, toss the 70-200 on. And use the 70-200 for the bikini shots. :wavey:
