I'm thinking about getting an Alienware system, I was wondering if any of you have one and what your thoughts on it where...

Are you happy with it? Does it perform as good as they claim it does?
    etc.etc.

    thanks

I'll agree with you on that... it is very over priced.... but I'm wondering if its worth the money and if the system is all they say it is....

Cause I mean hell a 320gig hard drive with 1gig ram and a geforce fx 5900 with 256mb ram, is really really sexy to me....

I just don't know anyone whos purchaced one of these machines to know if the quality is there and all that good stuff.

I don't know anybody's who purchased them either. Building the same spec computer you'de probably save $200 - $400

THe LCD monitors they include are the main reason they are so expensive.

Well actually I just spent my last bajillion dollars the other day... so no I'm not, the only reason I'm thinking of going for this is because I can finance it threw them. Payments would be like $80 a month..... interest rate is high tho, but I can pay it off in like 6 months.

    :dunno:

Don't finance a computer. You'd be paying for like 2 in the end.

    Mobo is $120
3200+ is like $400. That's way to fuckin expensive for what it is. Get a 2500+ and OC it to 3200+ speeds. $85.
Do you NEED 320GB? 160GB Maxtor or SG SATA HDD is $160.
1GB of overclocking RAM like Corsair XMS PC3200LL is $300. If you don't need overclocking RAM, regualr PC3200 is around $200 for 1GB.
    Get a Radeon 9800 Pro. $310.
Cases w/ PS can vary from $100-200. Depends on what you find and what you like.
Why the fuck do they have do CDRW drives? a CDRW/DVD drive from Lite-On is $50.

All the items listed about is around $1200.

    Fuck $3000!!

You can spend a little more for some nice water cooling to overclock the CPU and graphics card.

$1300 can get you a nice 20" Apple Cinema display. My friend has it and works great for gaming.

So $2500 total WITH kick ass LCD.

You get a pretty badass computer, and everything is customized and stylish in your color of choice, if you're into that. That's the only reason I'd get one, is cuz it does look kinda cool, though it is overpriced, I'm sure they offer 100% support if anything goes wrong too. If you have the money, and don't have the knowledge or the desire to build your own, then go for it.

Well I agree 100% with all of you, Alienware is way to overpriced for there shit....

I'd like to build my own, basiclly the same as the Alienware system is, only with overclocking ram and a DVD/RW and a kick ass display.... I'm happy with my current display (KDS 21" flatscreen) but a cool LCD would be nice, only if its good with the gaming.

I'm not a computer no0b, but I'm also not a computer wiz either, but I know enough to be able to build my own.

Do you guys knwo any good sites where I can get some of this stuff fairly cheap? I have already checked out pricewatch.com, and they have alot of what I'm looking for but not all of it.

And yes I do wanna customize my system... I'm very good at art and could do a killer case, plus my brother has a decal machine so I can make any decals I need for it...

I'm glad I posted this, cause now I don't think I'm going to go the Alienware way.... you all have very good points.

Just about Identical computer. If you were to hunt around for deals you could get that total to $1700 easily. If you wait a month or two that total would be $1600 (cpu is so new one amd releases the 64bit proc the athlon xp is going to sink in price).
