Worse sandstorms than we had in Baghdad. Less danger, more boredom. My first impression each time I passed through there was that the place had absolutely no soul.

    How long is the TDY?

If it's over a month, you will return to CONUS with an empty soul.

Greenpillow will look at your eyes and think "OMFG HE HAS NO SOUL!" :run:

Your kids will run up to hug you and say "Where's my daddy?" :crying:

Your dog will growl at you and run away.

Even Inforpic's weird neighbor wouldn't want anything to do with you. BECAUSE YOU WILL HAVE NO SOUL!!! :noes:

Nobody makes coffee like Green Bean. :yum:

AAFES should let them open a shop in every AAFES BX/PX location. The whole company is shaped around supporting US troops.

they completely fucked up our alterations shop at the PX by shutting it down and replacing it with a starbucks

it's all good though, the new alterations is about 1/10 of the old one and is less efficient now :hsugh:

Get ready for some serious BOREDOM. Hot, humid, boring, and I hear leadership there is about as anal retentive as you can get now.

    False.

    My top DFACs:
    1. Berstein (army cooks, one choice, but prepared to perfection)
    2. Warrior (biggest DFACs in Iraq, like 3 football fields)
    3. Speicher (lots of choices and the healthy bar, plus the hidden gem 24/7 pilot DFAC)
    4. Liberty (the small one behind the big PX that I found way too late in my deployment)
    5. Basmaya Iraqi Complex (BBQ my own steak, yes please)

Honorable mention to the chicken breast on the salad bar at the Air Force BIAP DFAC, the snacks at Carver, and the sandwich bar at Sykes/Tel Afar.

Air Force & maintenance. Going for an office position. I doubt I'd have much interaction with supervision.:naughty:

That being said, if some Army cat needs his ego stroked, good for him. I'll probably be spending all of my time at the gym or in my room since I'll be the only person from my unit going.:wtc:

The one where a shitload of brass ate every day? That was pretty good, but crowded.

Best meal I had in Iraq was a steak grilled outside the Ops building at JSS Sadr before it got blown up. I had just started opening my MRE when the most awesome scent I had ever smelled hit me like a sledgehammer. I followed my nose and some dirty mechanic asked me if I wanted one. 30 seconds later I was burning my fingers and biting in to an amazingly tender steak. Steak and Hadji bread... MMMM mmm MMMM!! :yum:

They told us later that they only cooked steaks for us RC guys when a route clearance team took casualties. I don't know if that was true or not - we rarely made it out of our 3-day rotation through Sadr without somebody getting their bell rung.

The Oasis in Arifjan was nice. Food, okay, environment excellent.
There's a new one in Buehring that has real silverware and plates.
Whatever you do, don't take that five minute drive north to Camp Virginia, that place blows.

The Sather AB is nice as well as the DFAC on the flight line on BIAP. Haven't ventured out to Liberty's DFACs yet. Maybe one day soon.

Qwest hads down best. So far Speicher and and Desert inn (JBB/ Anaconda) close second.
All DFACs in Kuwait suck balls. AJ, Beurhing and Ali Al saleem, Virginia definately not sure about KNB.
