i'm 21 yrs old 6'7 and weight 225 pounds. I'm not a huge powerlifter like most people here but i'm looking to gain about 10 pounds this summer.. i'm naturally a thin guy. I want to bulk up but still keep my definition. problem is.. i drink a shitload. i get drunk probly 4 days a week, so i'd say in total 40-50 beers a week, maybe one night drinking hard alcohol. I know this is affecting my gains but i just want to know in what ways it affects bulking and gaining muscle. :dunno: currently i lift 4 days a week, 2 muscles a day while taking 5 grams of creatine the days i workout. any info would be wonderful

I was reading a book about this over the weekend and it was saying that alcohol mostly affects the abdominal muscles, it causes them to get bigger (in a bad way) or something, and that you need to tone your muscles and stop all consumption of alcohol inorder to get that fancy 6-pack that every guy wants.

Personally I have cut my alcohol consumption and I still don’t see any 6-pack

i used to have a drinking problem and as soon as i quit drinking completely, it was like i went on a bulking/cutting phase at the same time. I took a 5 months "vacation" where i had no access to lifting equipment, but when I came back i made back the gains that took me a year to get in like 3 months. before I had stopped lifting i was drinking like crazy and on M1T (yikes! i used to be a dumbass!) and I am by far stronger now and i take nothing but creatine and whey. not drinking will help you tremendously

I use to drink my fair share from the time I was 21 to about 24. I didn't think it did anything negative to me until I stopped drinking almost totally. I was 6'3" 190lbs and could NOT see my abs. I could only bench 225 for 3 reps on a good day.

Since I have almost stopped drinking I have been able to get to 215lbs in about a year and a half and can bench 225 for 12 reps.

I know there are those like Mainesucks who are about to post how they always get PR's the day after they drink with a big hangover however I think that they really put in an extra effort in order to psych themselves into thinking drinking doesn't effect them. Imagine how big/strong guys like that would be if the didn't drink.

Cutting from 10 beers a night to 8 really isn't helping much.

I cut back to one night per week in the bar, and my gains soared. I was seriously wasting my time drinking4 nights a week and lifting.

I have been trying to just keep it to one night a week during the summer. During the school year that is really hard to do in gainesville, but I try and stick to 2 nights a week. I also try and factor in the calories I will get from the beer into my diet.

I go out about 4 nights a week, maybe 5

Florida State doesn't really allow you to "stop" drinking

42yrs old 11.7% body fat I swear 11% is in the gut. I only drink on weekends Fri-Sun prolly 12-15 beers total. I work the abs like a motherfuck and still got that dreaded gut although it has got smaller in the past 6 weeks since I've been watching my diet. I think age has something to do with it.

    No alcohol period.
But thats mostly not because of concerns about gain, but because of all the stupid shit I do when I get drunk. :uh:

Chris3g had a huge list of problems associated with regular consumption of alcohol on an athletes body.

I have it saved, but I apparently cannot copy/paste here. Perhaps when he enters the thread he can do it.

On another note, if you are getting drunk 4X a week and taking in roughly 40-50 beers a week + one night of hard alcohol then you are a freaking loser.
