    ya'll better get up ons.

here is some info on ALCAR

    What is it?

ACETYL L-CARNITINE, ALC, or ALCAR, which until recently could have been called one of bodybuilding’s most under appreciated supplements, is now quickly gaining popularity for many of its impressive benefits.

L-carnitine is very similar to the nonessential amino acid carnitine. It performs some of the same functions, such as helping metabolize food into energy.

    What does it do?

This powerful bodybuilding super nutrient has also been shown in studies to help increase fat metabolism, prevent the breakdown of muscle tissue, increase testosterone levels, and increase growth hormone levels, as well as being a potent nootropic, enhancing memory and learning. Additional studies have also shown that ALC can actually help to shrink the size of subcutaneous fat cells. Supplementing with Acetyl L-Carnitine-both before and after an intense workout-can help reduce muscle soreness while greatly enhancing the muscles ability to recuperate and repair itself. ALC is also said to greatly improve sleep quality and mood.

ALC transfers long-chain fatty acids, such as triglycerides into mitochondria (a cell's energy powerhouse), where they may be oxidized to produce energyhelping to burn fat. It also increases energy, and improves resistance to muscle fatigue.

    Key benefits include:

    · May help raise testosterone.

    · May help raise growth hormone.

    · May help shrink existing fat cells.

    · Can increase muscle mass and decrease fat storage by means of nutrient partitioning.

    · Increases fat metabolism.

    · Increases Endurance.

    · Increases utilization of fatty acids as energy.

    · Improves sleep, mood, and mental function.

    Who needs it?

Anyone seeking to maximize performance, decrease fat mass, or enhance their memory and learning capacity. ALAR has a tremendous safety profile, and is used by young and old alike.

    How much to take:

Dosage varies from 200mg all the way up to 1gram per dose, three times daily.

    that's a lot of shit. I think 1/4 tsp = 600mg. 1 tbsp = 4 tsp if I remember right. So that's like 10g of that shit

    From BN, 1/4 teaspoon = 800 mg

    University of Maryland

    Adult

Recommended doses of L-carnitine supplements vary depending on the health condition being treated. The following list provides guidelines for some of the most common uses, based largely on doses used in studies for these conditions:

    * Fat metabolism (conversion of fat to energy) and muscular performance: 1,000 to 2,000 mg usually divided into two doses
    * Heart disease: 600 to 1,200 mg three times daily, or 750 mg twice daily
    * Alcohol-related carnitine deficiency: 300 mg three times daily
    * Male infertility: 300 to 1,000 mg three times daily
    * Chronic fatigue syndrome: 500 to 1,000 mg three to four times per day
    * Overactive thyroid: 2,000 to 4,000 mg per day in two to four divided doses

I take 1/2 teaspoon in the morning and mix 1/4 teaspoon into my pitcher of green tea which I drink throughout the day.

Muscle carnitine in hypo- and hyperthyroidism.

Sinclair C, Gilchrist JM, Hennessey JV, Kandula M.

Department of Neurology, Rhode Island Hospital, Brown Medical School, 593 Eddy Street, Providence, Rhode Island 02903, USA.

Weakness is common in both hyper- and hypothyroidism, and skeletal muscle L-carnitine may play a role in this regard, as suggested by studies indicating abnormal levels of carnitine in serum and urine of patients with thyroid dysfunction. Skeletal muscle samples were obtained for carnitine analysis from control subjects, and from hyperthyroid and hypothyroid patients before and after treatment. There was a significant reduction in carnitine, especially the esterified portion, in hyperthyroid individuals, with a return to normal as euthyroid status was regained. In hypothyroid patients, there was a trend for carnitine to be lower than normal and for improvement once euthyroid status was attained. Our data indicate that muscle carnitine levels are affected by both hypo- and hyperthyroidism. A decrease in muscle carnitine in both conditions may contribute to thyroid myopathy. Steve, the recomendation used to be that you should take alpha lipoic acid if you take ALCAR. That was based on the research by Dr. Bruce Ames. I saw a reference that it was due to using high dosages of ALCAR causing increased free oxygen radicals and the ALA takes care of them.

At lower dosages of ALCAR the radicals did not increase. I still think that ALA is a good supplement to take and especially if you taking high dosages of ALCAR.
