I am still kicking myself for not getting one when they were dirt cheap and I feel like a dolt asking now but are there any sources for these anymore?

 sources keesh. I didn't know there were any complete kits floating around after that barrel import legislation :ugh2:

I'm so glad I got my kits when I did, but from the looks of your latest build I guess even those rusted out romy-g kits were still pretty good quality.

this thread makes me even MORE anxious to get my romy-g and tantal back  should both be done on the 18th :x:

I'm trading a couple of my older AMD65 kits in exchange for a DSA inch fal receiver and some other parts. I can't wait to finally have a DSA FAL.

One thing I never got when I owned my AK was how certain parts could be so expensive since hardly anyone in the US is manufacturing accessories/furniture anymore. The price on 74 mags is fucking retarded.

Not as cheap as flats. I work at a sheetmetal shop, so I have access to brakes and welders. :hsd:

True, they do save you a shitload of time from bending, welding, and heat treating. I think the last few I bought were $55.

The Tantal ones are a bit more IIRC. But they look just like the originals.

    :)

To someone else, what I did on the laptop was worth 150 dollars. Its just free labor for me though.

We got on the subject of guns and he mentioned how he had bought a FAL kit a while back and never built it, and we just decided to trade my labor for the kit.

    I was pleased.

Thanks for the links! So is that a fair price on a parts kit? Who makes a quality AK these days? I have considered just buying an AK ready to go but haven't done much research into current prices/manufacturers.

Arsenal makes good AK, but they are a little pricey. Another option would be to buy a Saiga in your choice of caliber (7.62x39, 5.56x45, 12ga, and I believe they are making a 5.45x39 version soon) and then remove the buttstock and add a pistol grip, AK style stock, and a trigger guard. If you've got a few tools, it shouldn't take more that an hour or two. This way would probably be the least expensive, and you get a good quality Russian AK.

Keesh - is there a good site with info on the different models (bulgarian, russian, underfolder, ak74, ak47, etc?) I am a noob when it comes to these guns but they seem to have quite the following and are I've always wanted one so I'd like to spend my money wisely.

Would it be a good idea to just buy a couple kits with barrels now and then build them later? I mean I have some cash now but free time is scarce. I just don't want to wait any longer as they aren't getting any cheaper (right?) and they seem to be harder to find in decent shape...

cool. Whats a fair price for kits? Seems like kits with intact barrels with good bores is around 3-400 these days.

That seems to be the going rate, doesnt mean its a fair price :hs:

I paid 400 for each of my Polish kits, it sucks, but I'm happy. Romy G kits should go about $300.
