I am going to a build party in Jan and need a kit and the rest

Tapco is local so Ill probably visit them for the flat but what does everyone recommend for just a cheap toy?

The romanian kits are plenty but that front grip is ugly as sin. Can changing that be considered 1 of the 922r parts?

if you change the upper and lower handguard to a USA one they count as 1 part total for your parts count.

Is there a good website that has plenty of reliable info about doing this? I have done a few searches, but haven't found what i'm looking for yet.

I know nothing about AK's or the whole kit process.

akforum.net has some good info for building I think you have to register to view pics and videos, AK section on arfcom isn't to bad either.

I've seen people cut it off and sand it down. Or you can replace both but I like to keep the outside all original

Pick up a G2 trigger group (3 compliance parts,) US slant brake, US Pistol Grip, and your Tapco flat will also count as one. That's 6 and all you need.

Cut off the stupid dick grip too wit ha hacksaw or something then just sand it down until it looks regular. You're probably going to want to re-finish the furniture anyway.

I went overboard with my compliance parts, partly cause I got good deals on most of it. I used copes combo kit with the G2 trigger, slant break, and gas piston, then I got a new set of k-var furniture (since I didn't want wood on this one anyway). so In the end I had like 9 US parts counting the receiver.

i plan to get a romy-g kit, too but get new furniture.

so the grip and stock count as one part each, but the upper and lower handguards are counted together?

correct, a complete set of US furniture is only 3 parts, since it isn't upper and lower handguard, its 'handguard'

which makes me wonder what it would count as if it was half US, half foreign :dunno:

I went with a Romy G kit that came from AK Builder, but bought black furniture for it. I still plan on chopping the front grip and redoing the wood, but the synthetic set works best time-wise.

Also what receivers are you going with? Built receivers or flats? Also which flats are you going with. I liked the Tapco flats more than the normal flats, less work to fit properly.

You know, technically it just needs to be greater than 50% US made to be considered a US part. Since the lower handguard is bigger if you used a US handguard I guess it would make the 'handguards' a US part. Not that anyone will ever check it though.

I don't but a person locally does. We just had a huge build at his place, having about 30 people. He has all of the jigs necessary along with all the other tools needed to complete an AK. He is a great guy and here is his profile information over at Calguns. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/member.php?u=8362

I still need to finish mine up but I have not had the time to go over to his house again. I am hoping to have time in mid January.

where's a good place to get some cheap kits? specifically underfolder if they're cheap enough? I've got some arfcom people that are local and have the shop to do this in.

Theyre Hungarian sorry :o I've read a few people who have gotten them and they are unfired, brand new. I would get one but to meet CA's OAL length the folder has to be pinned in the open position which is pretty pointless.

They got the polish ones too, maybe I'll grab a hungarian, I have an extra underfolder pin assuming chicom ones are the same size.
