If the bores are as good as advertised it'll be fine for building.

are they complicated to build, I assume they don't come with instructions. And special tools I need?

They are more complicated to build then say an AR15, some tools are required exactly what depends what your building from. A reciever flat will be the most complicated way to build unless you consider yourself very mechanically inclined I'de reccomend buying an already bent and heat treated reciever with the rails installed ($55-100)
http://ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=4&f=51 some stickies in this forum with info on tools, tutorials and FAQ's on building AK's.

Kits dont come with a reciever, you would also need to order this http://dpharms.com/akm-1mm-receiver-p-191.html If all you want is a single standard 7.62 AK and dont plan on building more later on you might just be best off buying a complete one, by the time all is said and done your not saving much building vs buying a SAR1/WASR1

If you're set on building that's a good kit to go with. Also DPH arms is a great company to deal with. I bought my last reciever from them for my AMD build.

I am wanting to build one just to do it. I have never had and AK or built a gun so I am hoping to do two things I have wanted to do all in one.

I just decied to order one and a compliance kit. Anything else I should have ordered?

besides the kit and the compliance parts only other thing needed is the reciever, if you get one prebent with rails installed like dph is selling your set. If you get a flat you'll need the templates to bend it correctly(hardest part of whole building process). Gun itself wont be hard to put together the AK is a simple design next most difficult step will be pressing the barrell if you dont have a press.

That's the best deal on a kit that I know of (because of the G2 trigger group being included. If you already have the tools you can build an AK for less than $200 if you get that kit and all of the compliance parts.

I looked at those and printed out several of the tutorials, I was hoping someone had a schematic or an exploded view that was not 3"X3" It seems the tutorials don’t like schematics :hs:

I am not in a rush; I am just trying to accumulate as much info as possible before I do anything on the gun at all.

no worries. I just hope everything stays up for 14 hours or so. Evidently my space provider is limited to 60k upload speeds. I get 25GB space and 2TB bandwidth though! :hs:

How does the quality look on everything? I'm pretty interested in doing the same thing you're doing. Keep us updated on the build

The parts all look really nice, the furniture obviously is a bit worn and I don't like the finish color on it. I am going to start stripping that on Monday night. The bore is prefect from what I can tell. Everything came very clean, which was a big surprise to me

I will take a bunch of pics and post them later in the week. I am not sure it will make a good EDU as I have never done this before. But I will give it a shot.

I was looking for something on what order to assemble the parts, I can figure out where they go and what not but I assume there is an order that will make it easier then others. I also have never riveted anything together before so that will be interesting; it does not seem too hard. I am now just trying to figure out what type of coating to put on the metal parts, I want them to all match (or look very close). And I am not sure the cold blue would be very good for such a large piece. Also, do I assemble the gun first and then have it coated / painted? I am worried that I will fuck up the finish if I have it done and then assemble it.

P.S. I have never even shot an AK, so I may hate this thing once I shoot it :hs:
