The closest thing I can find are the side+top picatinny rails that attach to the side mount like this:

I've found 5-6 different brands that make them and none of them say the iron sights are still visible and they look like they'd be too high for a cowitness. I think a rail on the gas tube would be just as useless because of the way the sights are on the AK. :dunno: I guess BIUS aren't absolutely essential, but I'd like to make this my HD weapon for now (it's either this or a 10/22.) I trust eotech enough to work when I need it to, but I'd just feel more comfortable with a cowitness just in case something fucked up happens.

Maybe it would be sufficient enough just to have the quick-release so I could at least ditch the eo in a hurry and switch to irons. :dunno: What are your opinions?

Also mine is a WASR-2, I'm assuming most of these rails are compatible with the mount mine came with, am I mistaken?

I think I just contradicted myself in the original post, let me edit it. What I want is an eotech + cowitness.

I'm keeping all my furniture wood, I'm looking for a specific way to mount an eo + light without putting any mounts on the hand guards.

all due respect, but he's asking about adding modern fighting rifle features to a weapon that me might depend on to save his or his families life. He can put whatever he wants on it.

Thanks for the heads up sneakyjesus but I really want to stick with a fullsize eotech. I've done a lot of googling now and I don't think I'll be able to easily get any sort of cowitness even with heavy modifications. And even then I'd have to remove it for cleaning, which might throw off the zero and defeat the whole purpose of having a reliable sighting system. I guess for simple HD I'll be fine with just an Eotech on one of the rails I posted in the original post (that allows for removal of the receiver cover). :dunno: One of these days I'll get a 12 gauge to fit the HD bill, but for now this will do.

Sneaky Jesus is right, you're going to have to make something yourself or get an Ultimax and a micro aimpoint. Standard aimpoints will be able to see the dot and sights right at the bottom. Currently there are no rear rail systems for AKs that will allow you to co witness. Both Krebs Custom and DPH Arms are coming out with rails that will have an integrated rear peep sight. I doubt you will get an eotech to cowitness with any rail on the AK because of how tall it is.

I drilled and tapped a section of picatinny rail on an extra gas tube I had then slobbed a bunch of JB weld to make sure it would never move

Couple hundred rounds of 7.62x39 and it's still holding a zero :mamoru: Pretty good for $15 worth of material.

I had to grind the screws down so they wouldn't interfere with the gas piston.

You won't get a cowitness with an EOTech on the AK. The sights simply aren't high enough. In any case, the best optic mount would be the Ultimak and EOTech's don't do so well over the hot barrel.

An Aimpoint in a low mount will work, I'm pretty sure a Fastfire/Doc would too.
